What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It’s actually 2 large pieces that I painted on the backside then put them together for the final welding. The whole thing is TIG welded but even if it was mig welded, not a whole lot of final welding was done when on the truck. Designed the whole thing in Bendtech too which helped me...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

its a custom mount I built. It holds a 12k smittybuilt winch. I wanted the highest clearance mount possible for the rock crawling we do and it can’t stick out past the bumper to hurt approach angle. Bit of a photo dump but gives anyone who wants to copy it a good idea how it’s made. It’s a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Did a whole lot of work lately, truck is a bit out of the norm for this group but designed and built an eco cage for it. 100% TIG welded as well.

for now its collecting dust in the garage. Not exactly trash, but its there for in case my buddy needs it for his CUCv. I put it through some use running the 40s on 10 psi on rocks locked in the front. im surprised it held up as good as it did. either way not sure if i'm going to part with it...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Thanks, That front dig option is great. i played with it a few times and the truck can definitely turn sharp if you put the e brake on and throw it in front wheel drive. i will say between the doubler and hydro steer, cutting the bed down definitely made a huge improvement on the trucks...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

about a month back i installed my atlas 4 speed transfer case. the lowest ratio is 10.34:1 and with high idle at 800 rpm the brakes cant hold the truck back with it just in drive. i know this truck kinda differs than what most people do with them on this site. new 42* cv from high angle...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

There is plenty of info on youtube about it. for me i do a general preheat over the area then do a 4-6" circle with my heat gun 1/4"-3/8" away. keeps the distortion down on these relatively flat door panels vs trying to do single row passes. its one of those things you just gotta play around...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ended up cleaning up the door panels of the truck. Gotta love the heat gun trick. the stock hose for my hydro steering finally started leaking...kinda expected it to leak eventually given it wasnt designed to be used for field serviceable crimps. ended up cutting a piece of proper hose...

Thanks for the support. I knew that cutting up one of these trucks won't be supported by everyone. But for a rock crawler they are just awesome. At least I'm trying to make it look good in the process and not all hacked up :p Didn't expect any members to be close by in Lawton. I'm literally...

    Smallest tire on HMMWV rims??

even if you do a 4" lift. i think having a 37" tire (if its a true 37" tire, not sure i dont have a set anymore) will still give you just 1" difference in height if you were to do a 35. kind of a marginal difference if you ask me. it shouldn't make it a pain to get in/out of the truck. but...

bit more progress done on it. I got the factory brackets modified to fit. luckily they line up with a factory hole in the frame and worked out perfect for the length. i got pretty lucky for it to miss all the rivets for the shackle mount! once i got my through holes cut i welded the square...

started this earlier this week. one of the things that keeps this truck from reaching its full potential...needed to be done so finally decided to start now. cut of 13.5" off the back. after doing this i can see why its going to make a huge difference. the military definitely didn't want...

almost forgot. gave the truck a bit of a hop on one of the hills while testing the locker. Honestly it was not jarring at all on the landing. pretty smooth considering those big balloon tires had a lot to do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaGkg-7LazQ

So finally replaced the rusty inner fender that rotted from a leaky battery. Gotta love free stuff! Copied the trimming i did and made it a tad neater. Yay for a solid fender! noticed the other day testing the locker in a nearby field that my brakes were fading. gently get on the brakes...

It's really not bad. Those metal cones to guide the axle gave me a little trouble. But stuck a pry bar in there to give the pipe something to bite against when hamming them out. Thanks for the support guys.

Thanks guys! Ended up reusing the carrier bearings. they were in great condition. sort of surprised being i'm not sure how often the military had these trucks locked in 4x4. The truck has 56K, but no telling.... New Spicer non-greasable joints. everything prepped for carrier/seal install...

got the front end stripped down for the detroit locker. r front U joints were starting to seize up. new non greasable spicers are on the way. by one of the better investments i've made. cost almost as much as the locker itself, but how easy it made for carrier bearing removal made it...

got some rock crawling goodies in. detroit locker for the front, and to make it easier, a carrier bearing puller. also a front/rear 3/8" diff cover from ruffstuff. floor jack can only lift it off the tires 1" lol. Untitled by Jonathan Rios, on Flickr Untitled by Jonathan Rios, on Flickr...

I posted a reply earlier but it shows that a mod has to approve the post first. Not sure how many posts I need to get past that. Anyways that pic with the shackle in the frame was with the truck flexed out on a small metal service ramp. The shackle was almost vertical at ride height. Guess...
