Good afternoon all! Sorry to rehash an old topic, but here we go. I've owned my 1991 M923A2 for 3 years now and the CTIS never seemed to work, so I disconnected the wiring harness at the control unit. After doing a few parades and other get togethers with other guys in my area with MV's, I've...
Happy Friday fellow SS'ers! I took a crapshoot yesterday and bought a pair of these KILLER looking military surplus LED lights for my 5 ton. There are 100 LED's in each unit, so I'm guessing they are REALLY bright. There are no markings on them whatsoever, no brand name, model, nothing at all...
Really not sure on how much current they draw, but from what I know of LED's it's very little. Probably less than 1 amp to run at least 8 of the strips I have.
All of those LED strips came from a scrap job. They were part of a display unit from a store and there were like 20 of these strips with 8 LED's in each one, so I mounted 3 in the cab and 4 in the bed (so far... plan on at least 2 more back there)
Nope, she's not a daily driver for me... weekends and scrap hauling, which is what I do as a side gig. If she got better mileage I wouldn't mind driving her daily!
Aside from tracing down and fixing an oil leak, I wired up a 12 volt power accessory port. Tapped the 12v from the LO speed connection off the blower motor switch. (BIG KUDOS TO 74M35A2 FOR THAT TIP!!) Then wired up a mobile ham radio and some SWEET bright LED strips in the cab and in the bed...
I hear ya!! My mind was going to worst case scenarios and I was thinking it was the front crankshaft seal. I got it licked, FOR NOW. I only had a short 10mm wrench and it kept slipping off the bolt. I need a longer and thinner one to really get in there and make sure it's good and snugged up, so...
UPDATE - - - Problem solved! Got under there today and after wiping down a nasty oily mess I was able to trace the leak down. It was coming from the very bottom of the front timing cover. A few of the 10mm bolts had loosened up, and of course the two that I needed to snug up are the hardest...
Thanks both of you, Simp and Will.
As for the leak, if I need to change the front crankshaft seal, looks like the radiator will have to come out to gain access to pull the front pulley... correct?
Well I've put around 2300 miles on her since I bought her last summer and I haven't changed the oil or filter yet. The guy I bought it from owns a truck repair shop and said he had changed the oil shortly before I bought it, but how long before, I really don't know.
Hey fellow SS'ers! Been a while since I've been on here. Last time it was a coolant issue... rising temps and loss of heat. Got that all straightened out. Ultimately, the brass elbow that comes from the shutterstat that sends air pressure to the fan clutch actuator was COMPLETELY PLUGGED UP. I...
Well a little 6x6 5 ton car crushing would have definitely been EXTREMELY FUN and a great way to relieve some pent up anger & stress, I don't think it would've flown verfy well at work... that was my supervisor's Prius. LMAO
Okay, the saga continues! After some up close inspection, there was indeed some coolant seeping from the head gasket, so those of you that thought this was my issue were dead on. There were just two very tiny dribbles coming from it in the area shown in the pic below.
Seeing as where I live...
Yeah, I took it with me into work today and cleaned a bunch of that crusted on **** off of the impeller blades and thought after a good thorough looking over, it's in good shape. Spins with no issues, no wobbling at all, no evidence of seepage from the weep hole, so back in it goes.
