    Detroit Diesel cooling system flush.

I checked the rack pryor to purchasing it. All the injectors move freely. I was shocked because of the engine sitting in a crate since the late 90's.

    Detroit Diesel cooling system flush.

I was thinking just that same thing. It's worth a shot and may run fine right?

    Detroit Diesel cooling system flush.

What's it worth as a core? $1500? It turns 360

    Detroit Diesel cooling system flush.

Thanks for the reply, it gets worse. I just popped the intake housing off it to look at the blower and found a powdered substance in it. The air box has tacky black oil in it with no evidence of the powder. Not much oil in theair box though, but enough to raise questions on if this engine was re...

    Detroit Diesel

With the valve cover off, tap each line with a wrench. You should hear a sharp ringing sound. If you hear a dull sound the lines need a be loosened and re torqued. Fuel contamination in the oil is the death of a Detroit.

    Detroit Diesel cooling system flush.

Gentlemen, I'm probably out of my lane here, but I need some help with how to flush the cooling system on my GOV rebuilt 4-53N. I understand that harsh chemicals should not be used on wet sleeved engines. This engine will be swapped into my 84 M1008. Thanks.

    M1008 rear carrier

Nothing but love here as usual.

    M1008 rear carrier

Did you have to replace the rear carrier? This truck originally had 4.56 gears, but someone put 4.10's in it. I have no idea why, there isn't much difference between the two.

    1956 M135 2-stroke Detroit Diesel conversion

Yup 3-53, maybe a goat engine by the looks of the water inlet.

    Dually Conversion (For looks)

I needed a front axle anyway. The ring and pinion were dust, and the king pins were also gone. I think I paid $350 for the adapters and another $800 for the 19.5 wheels. I initially bought the 19.5 wheels to fit over the brake drums, but I got a disk brake conversion about mid stream.

    Dually Conversion (For looks)

Dually conversion. Here's my setup. Dual wheel adapters and 19.5 wheels front and rear. I have a dually front axle also. The adapters are hub centric to both the axle and the wheels.

    Dually Conversion (For looks)

I'm doing a disc brake conversion as well. There are steel dually hub adapters available to accomplish this.

    Dually Conversion (For looks)

So the stock SWR will accept dually rims without clearance issues?

    M1008 rear carrier

I put a 700R4 in the M1031 I should have never sold. It worked out well but I never trusted it really.

    M1008 rear carrier

Well I bought this truck sight unseen like a lot of us do,and it turned ou that the front axle was toast, so I picked up an axle for $400.00 in Albany. It's a 3.73 gear ratio which is perfect for highway driving. Just wondering if anyone else has changed their ratio to 3.73.

    M1008 rear carrier

Gentlemen, I'd like to change out the carrier and ring and pinion to 3.73 so the truck is a little more highway friendly. Has anyone done this?

    Do I really want a M1009? (MPG)

I had an M1031 with the Banks turbo and a 700R4 that got 25 mpg. I wired the torque converter so I could manually lock it up which probably helped.
