    Obscure question, MEP-831A

OK... so that huge plug arrived that I bought off of Ebay. Holy smokes... what an absolute unit this thing is. The plug itself weighs several pounds, and appears to be very watertight. Even came with all the washers and bolts: I went ahead and ran some 2 AWG battery cables in there, and...

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

cool... found this bougie-looking plug on Ebay, amidst all the rotten/broken/corroded/clapped-out milsurp ones: I'm going to run a couple of external batteries to ensure I have enough starting amps.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

All the fuel leaks have been fixed (after replacing the injector and the injector line). Still won't start. BTW, does anybody know if you can start the genset via that exterior 24v auxiliary port? Can it support the kind of amperage that the starter draws? If so, where would one go to get...

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

I didn't bleed the line yet, but I will now. I'm also replacing that metal injector line... it's still wanting to leak just a bit around that top fitting.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Once I pulled out that pin, the actuator armed moved freely... and it's doing much better. It's almost starting... you can tell it wants to. So close now.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

OK... more incremental progress. Removed the old injector: Side-by-side with the new one: And no leaks once installed! Still won't start. It'll crank now, and no more fuel leaks... but will not start Video:

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Yeah... I bought an OEM one, rather than ChinaMart. When tolerances matter, you don't go Chicom.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Yeah... that was my thought too. Somebody has cranked on that before. It's a cheap part. I'm probably better off just replacing it.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Found the leak. Here's the injector, side-view: And here's the leak point (circled in red):

Interesting... explained like that, it makes perfect sense.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

The injectors I see online seem to have a gasket associated with them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155770281975

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

So we are making progress! Received my replacement starter/solenoid assembly from Ebay, and promptly set about removing the old one. It literally smelled like electric death once I got it out (VERY strong odor of the Magic Smoke (TM) that makes all electronics function) (BTW, thanks to the...

    Nice... That gets a bookmark.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Not sure why that didn't come up for me. What search terms did you use? NVM... I see it. Where did you get that particular number?

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Which ones are you seeing? The ones I see don't look like they'll fit the genset: they're all 12V 114362-77010 is the part number I searched for. Also tried S114-414A, but all of those I've found are also 12V

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Well... that was interesting. I changed out the solenoid, and hooked everything back up... no arcing or shower-of-sparks this time... so that's an improvement. But I thought I smelled smoke, so I turned it to run with the intention to start it, and smoke began pouring out of the starter. I...

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Not sure how I didn't think to check Ebay, but my first hit turned up exactly what I needed. Gracias.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Where are you gentlemen getting your Yanmar engine parts? Who is the best online source to deal with? Got the solenoid out... need to source a new one.

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

No… this genset is new to me. Reportedly ran before it went into storage. Last serviced in 2021. It’s not seized-up or anything of the sort. I’ve owned a bunch of generators over the years (mostly Kohler and Honda), but this is my first of this sort. I’ve already done all the usual stuff...

    Obscure question, MEP-831A

Got a short piece of stainless steel pipe, and it fits the oil port perfectly. Problem solved. New problem tho… I tried to start it last week with a couple of UPS batteries in series. Got the fuel pump to run, but it wouldn’t turn over. I figured the batteries were too small, and/or didn’t...
