    Paint on CUCV frame

Thank you, both. I take it then that the military was not, after assembly in Flint, spraying any CARC on the chassis/suspension/axles? Ill be taking wire wire cups to mine soon and then most likely using some of the Eastwood rust and chassis paints. (Sorry, not sure why some photos get rotated)

    Paint on CUCV frame

I took the bed off my M1008 to clean and paint the frame and saw the current paint was flaking off in a few spots. I was not expecting to see shiny black paint underneath the flaking paint. Did CUCVs have CARC painted on their frames too? I have searched all over but only see CARC references...

M1031 to M1028A1 Overland Build, Offroad Designs NP203/205, 4L80E Conversion

Truck looks great. How did you mount the sliders? Is your tank in the factory position?

    Tranny leak after emergency stop

OP, did you find the cause? My transmission is exhibiting the same symptoms.

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Pushed the project away for awhile (would drive a few miles a week just to keep it moving) and starting to look at it again. Since purchasing I have had to replace the starter, fuel sending unit, gauge cluster print board, front axle joints, rear driveshaft joints, both batteries and oil cooler...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Had to chance to put the voltmeter to the alternators. With the engine running (in park), I got 29.1V on Pass side Alternator positive and 14.6V on drivers side (the DS would jump slowly around 14.5-14.6-14.7 but stayed 14.6 the longest). With engine running I got 14.25 on front battery and...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Update: Got a new 24V Gear Reduction Wilson starter installed using new bolts from local GM parts counter. and the manifold heat shield and front support bracket reinstalled. Also got some belts changed, new fluids in radiator, trans, tcase, new trans and fuel filters and new copper battery...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Could someone please tell me the difference between the $100ish dollar 24V starters available and the parts store ones like the Wilson 91-01-4417 that is just over $200? Any actual build difference?

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Was able to get a new surplus relay locally, was pristine on inside, plugged it in. Same issues. One clunk at starter and still got a buzz from the box on a few attempts. I am now pretty sure it is just the starter solenoid gone bad. I checked the relay wires per the TM and had about 11V with...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Thank you. I will disconnect both negatives, remove the relay, then reconnect the negative wires before testing for voltage at the purple/white terminal and red lead terminal on the starter relay connector. Recommendation on a test light for this one?

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

I pulled that part number (AR135 off of the CUCV FAQ thread here) I ran it all the way down and back the other day, thinking the same thing, but no luck. Can try jiggling the gear selector. It really sounds like the starter makes one clank noise and thats it like it is binding. But luckily have...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Local Napa has a AR135 starter relay so I am going to get that one. The AR746 is not available and cannot tell the different. The PSC number is same for both.

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

I had a second and tried to go through #42 in Electrical Troubleshooting: "Engine will not crank (no audible click from starter solenoid)" but for life of me could not get leads from voltmeter to the purple lead on starter solenoid. The starter is a gear reduction drive and does have the...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Thank you. I agree about not wanting to change to a doghead relay before it is running again as it adds another variable. Both batteries are brand new from a few days ago and fully charged. The old batteries were load tested, one failed, other was ok so I just replaced both. I will check the...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfNHZXR8jys Not my video but my situation is exactly like this in the video. Mine is a pre July 1985 model so I know the TM states these early ones had point gap too small. Plan is for after it gets a new starter and works again, to do the dog head relay.

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Thank you. I have read through many of those but of course need to read through many more times, especially the starter ones. I did #43 in Electrical Troubleshooting: Slow or No Cranking, Solenoid Clicks; Removed the pink lead from FI pump, had someone hold key in Start and reading was 23.2V...

Trying to fix issues on new to me M1008 - now won't start

Finally got a M1008 recently that is mostly original minus stereo install and a 12V plug added in the cab. PO drove it very often. I drove it about 80 miles the first week with no issues at all. Volt meter stayed right at the small tick mark at the top of the green area; everything works but the...
