MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I should also relay. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the fault board is plugged in or not. It matters how long I hold S1 in start…

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Ok, tried swapping a relay out of my 803 for K14, no change. Here are photos of the voltages I’m seeing. Starting to wonder if the VR was bad? Maybe I should go back to the old Libby VR? One thing I’m noticing, if I hold start more than 2-3sec it gives me an over speed or over voltage fault...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I will try K14 later today. Thanks

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I took the measurements at the load lugs where our line to the barn is connected. I will remeasure them tomorrow and upload photos of what I’m getting. Thanks for the continued steering of a novice!

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Yes, it’s connected to a farm building that was drawing. There’s a 240v hot water heater that I’m sure was calling for voltage. M9 was reading around 30-40% if memory serves me. As for S6, it’s on the L1-L2 position which is where we have our two load lines connected. I don’t think anyone has...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I should clarify, not sure if this is normal but I step up to run L1&L2 and I’m getting 133vac on one leg and 129vac on the other but 236vac across both. Seems normal for 240 but high on the 120 legs. Guy correct me if I’m in error but the 803 and 804 run a different fault board correct? Thought...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

You got it… unplugging said the fault indicator solves it. It runs like it should. Does that mean the fault indicator is bad?

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

So, I haven't ever touched A5 and it ran 750+ hours without a problem. I am making the assumption that it is still correctly hooked up. When you say "is it set in the 60hz mode," do you mean the A5? If so, I am not aware of how to change that mode, nor would I know why anything was changed. If...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I'm sorry Guy, I should have been more clear. Yes, I tested the MPU at the MPU using s10, it reads 2.8VAC and stays at 2.8. I am using a nice Greenlee DMM. When it shuts down I get and overspeed idiot light. Thanks for helping

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Ok guys, new VR from Kloppk and now I have a new problem. When I release S1, I no longer get an undervoltage fault, but the engine rpm increases slightly and then it shuts down on an over speed fault. Kloppk suggested testing the A5 but I don't think I have enough hands to do it by myself. Seems...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Well guys, I am at a loss. I replaced s1 with one off another gen set. Tested the VR and exciter stator and everything is within the spec'd ranges. I don't know where to go from here. Gen set starts up and produces voltage in the start position, upon returning to prime/run it throttles down very...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

After mulling over many of Guy's posts, I have a suspicion that S1 is bad. I have the #1 or #2 style switch, not the bakelite style. It is "sticky" and late in the day was intermittently not even closing the start circuit on the generator. I have looked through Guy's postings of the complete...

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Thanks guys, I will be back in the field with it tomorrow and will hopefully have an update!

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

I tested the fuse for the voltage regulator and it is good.

MEP 804a under voltage after start up

Novice gen set owner. I have an 804a with 794 hours that has run flawlessly since I bought it with 30 hours. Just today it started faulting under voltage after releasing S1 regardless of how long I hold it on start. After releasing S1 I lose all voltage and the fault light comes on. There is...

    MEP-803A: wiring issue... please HELP

Okay all, its fixed!!! After reading and re-reading all of your posts I traced the wire off the x-terminal and through the K20 relay. I had 24V everywhere I was supposed to and just about to give up again when I happened to wiggle the wire off of the #6 terminal of K20. As I wiggled it, the wire...

    MEP-803A: wiring issue... please HELP

Stupid question #27... How does one tell what side of the diode is positive???

    MEP-803A: wiring issue... please HELP

So, just to confirm, if the fuel pump is running then the hour meter ought to be ticking right?

    MEP-803A: wiring issue... please HELP

Well, I can't remember honestly. I know I checked Y, but I don't remember what it had. I haven't been back to the job site with it on it, but will tomorrow and will let you know. Thanks

    MEP-803A: wiring issue... please HELP

This is very helpful. I will make sure the diode is in properly. Why am I having such a hard time tracing what feeds the x-terminal? And why do I have such low voltage there?
