RE: Re: RE: Engine Prelubricator
Good progress Ernie! I would wire the pump like a starter motor, just sizing the wires and solenoid (relay) accordingly. A momentary contact pushbutton switch to operate a power relay, which "turns on" the motor with a connection directly to the battery. There...
On the next one, perhaps the PVC can be burnt out so as not to ruin the threads....or some solvent that will soften it..
Or simply keep the PVC fitting for a test of the pump, at least...
RE: Re: RE: pump
Even if the pressure doesn't build up, you have achieved a lot by filling the oil canisters and oil cooler, that's essentially all I'm able to do with my hand pump (posted in a different thread)...
Do your own. Just drill and tap the drain plug. Did one of mine last week.
Footnote: I played around with the oil pump from a parts MF engine the other day and the gears do not act as a perfect check valve, they will let oil pass thru at a slow rate, so the prelube pump will have to fight this...
I'm interested in one, perhaps two, but my budget won't allow it for a while. Doing the manual pump for starters with all parts on hand or on their way here.
If the bypass valve is open, obviously the pressure drop across the filter(s) becomes zero...
I installed a differential pressure gauge to monitor the filters, but haven't used it (=truck) much since.
The bypass valve in the filter base open when the differerential pressure (the pressure across the filters) exceeds 15 psi. Don't understand where the rpm comes into the picture....
This pressure is a function of blockage within the filters and the clean (original) filter diff pressure is less...
Otter, the vintage MV's are like large erector kits for grown-ups and we love to tinker with them, take them apart and put them back together in different configurations.
Buying something already assembled is a little like cheating, we often try to use parts around the garage to "cobble up"...
To me this is the ideal pump, the multifuel engine oil pump. :-)
Mil Spec, it only needs a drive motor, perhaps a starter motor from a small car (junk yard stuff). It can be a 12 VDC motor operated on 24 volts for a few seconds.
The mount, housing and motor to pump coupling is all that needs to...
