From 1981 to 1986, the 3rd character of the VIN was either of the following:
A = Chev (10 or more passenger)
B = Chev Tr., Incomplete Vehicle
C = Chev Tr., Complete Vehicle
8 = Chev Tr., Multipurpose Vehicle

Quick and easy way: 4th character is the GVW indicator. It's an "H" on a M1028/A1/A2/A3, M1031, M1010, a "G" on an M1008/A1, and an "E" on an M1009.
The RPO codes in the glove box or looking in the engine compartment are the only way to tell the 200-amp system from the regular setup...
