The valve cover gaskets on these can generally be reused with no need to replace to check valve clearance, still it is good to have a spare just in case. I too would test the injectors before looking at the pump as a possible issue Ike

The throttling issue sounds like you may have a timing problem with the injection pump or a problem with the diesel injectors. Ike p.s. I suspect a lot of people will be upgrading to Jim's digital gauges soon, so there may soon be people selling working used load meter gauges sorry don't know...

They are muffled, but much of the noise is not from the exhaust (more of a roar not a sharp bark), noise level is on par with commercial lawn mower, but is at a calmer less screaming 1800 rpm engine speed.

As to chances, think of this like any other trailer that has been sitting up for a while, the 3 big things I am always on the look out for on trailers that have sat around are wheel bearings, tires and brakes (sticking mostly). Another topic here is what sort of tow vehicle do you have?

Yes, but MEP-002a's do tend to WALK while running, at least mine does, in fact just last weekend while doing a test run it walked into and then shattered a wood pallet.

Congrats, looks like it may be a good one, and price was not insanely high for a trailer mounted generator. If you don't need the trailer you can likely sell it for $500 or so. Ike

I love having access to fork lifts and front end loaders, I am about to go put new batteries in my MEP-002a which is wedged behind my MEP-003a in a shed at the family farm at the moment. With luck it will be a 5 minute job to pick up with MEP-003a and move it 20 feet or so out of the way.

All that stuff may not be needed to get a good running standby MEP-002a, I bought one off GL a couple of years ago for about $450, it is an ugly duckling with brushed on cammo CARC, but from a mechanical point of view was in great shape. It appears it was a non-runner fresh from a major...

Ok, a couple of things, if you have a 30 amps 120/240V inlet box already in place, then you are going to likely want to go with the MEP-002a as its output is 26 amps in 120/240 single phase mode. For the inlet setup the simplest solution would be a breaker interlock kit such as one of these...

Let me ask for a little clarification here, is this for emergency backup, or off grid living?
