Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... Ok Rick, well... if you've changed 100 CUCV starters, thats about 99 more than I've done. So there may be a slight possibility you could be right...   I'll try it tomorrow (weather & time permitting) and see what happens. I may have...

OK... Update Time: Today I only worked on the M1008 CUCV for a short time. Here is what I found: *The Doghead Relay under the dash, DID indeed have power coming into it. **When the key was turned to the start position, the relay engaged and the solid purple wire (which goes to the starter...

Yep, I use dielectric grease on bulbs and any connector that isn't soldiered. Good stuff, stops corrosion, and seals water out. Works even better with the rubber housing military connectors like on the deuce, as the rubber housing helps keep the grease in place and last longer. Any connection...

Yep, I should have mentioned that, good point. As on the stock 24/12-volt setup, the Passenger side has an Isolated Ground, correct?

Yes, there was the main battery ground cable going from the buss bar to the block, the same stud as the engine ground. Is that buss bar grounded to the truck body? It looked as if it was isolated, I thought it only went to the the negative battery cables. Yep, I'd like to add a 2/0 ground to...

Hi Warthog, Yep should have done that before I ever installed it, as its always possible. "New" doesn't mean it works, thats for sure. Thanks

Latest Update: My Dad and I spent most of the day yesterday, working on the CUCV. I searched for and found the ground strap on the top back passenger side of the engine, just below the edge of the air filter... although after finding it, I searched more thinking surely there is another one...

Hi Doghead! I replaced all the battery cables about 2 years ago, with some heavy duty quality cable that I ordered. But anything is possible, I had already planned to go through all the cable ends and bus-bars, and just give everything a fresh clean-up and check all the connectors and such...

Hi Cpf240! I replaced both batteries about 2 years ago. They are Heavy Duty Interstate with the highest cranking amps I could get. With the initial problem happening, right after we had drove to and back from town, I don't think the batteries are bad or anything. I don't personally have a load...

Hi Richingalveston! Thanks for the reply. Yes, Grounding is what I intend to look next, as the symptoms are pointing in that direction. I hadn't thought about a ground strap burning though like the fusible links did, that is a good possibility and if is the case then the old starter may...

Another Update... Ok, the last update I posted, I had just gotten the Brand New Wilson starter and bracket installed. Today, I finally had time (and the weathers cooperation) to replace the two fusible links and go through the rest. I replaced the two links that had burned. And while going...

Hi Scottladdy! Thanks for the reply and info. I thought about it for a few days, but in the end since this is the first time since we've owned the truck (nearly 3 years now) that any fusible links had burned, I just went ahead and replaced the burned fusible links with new all new fusible...

Ok, another short update: O'reilly finally got the replacement starter for the broken replacement starter that they shipped me. So I went to their store, inspected, and picked up the new replacement.... but they did not have the fusible link that I needed... so I found and ordered a kit of 6...

Well, I have an update.... sort of... Got the Wilson starter today via UPS. The large outside box was in perfect condition, no tears, holes, dents, etc. A lot of heavy packing material in the box, with the smaller box which contained the starter in the middle of the packing material. The...

Hi CucvRus! I had originally intended replacing the fusible links with maxi fuses just like you mentioned, as it would make it much easier to change out a blown fuse in the future. But at least from what I understand (and I could be wrong) that doing so isn't advisable. But I don't know for...

Ahhhh..... its on the black connector... well, that makes more sense. Should have known it would have to be located somewhere else besides on the wire covering.... I didn't know the wire color would also specify the gauge, that makes it much easier too. Appreciate the heads up about the...

Thanks CucvRus! Appreciate it, will be looking for it. [thumbzup][thumbzup][thumbzup] The starter is supposed to be here tomorrow. I still have to go and buy some fusible link wire. But I have to identify what gauges I need first, as it looks to be 2 different sizes. But the size is not on...
