    No, you don't need to pull the pan, but it makes life easier. If you pull the motor and trans as one unit, I'd pull the top of the trans off too.

    Those appear to be remove able, but aren't when you look close.

    Yes, you can pull it w/o pulling the front cross-member. Some are riveted in place and you can not remove them. It is much easier if you pull the oil pan for clearance, but not needed.
