Well, time once again to bring another thread to a close,
I loaded the M561 Gama Goat on a shipper this evening, bound for it's new owner in Arizona, hopefully he will enjoy it as much as I did the short time I owned it.
Sorry it took so long Mike,I just now saw this post.
From the engine cover to the top of the hardtop is 21 inches, granted mine has the older style engine cover with the square corners vs the rounded ones.
UPDATE....
Since I am off for Christmas and New Years,I have some time to work on the trucks again, yesterday was finishing the brake rebuild on the M54A1, today is alignment of the Gama Goat!
I concluded that it had 3 major issues...
Drivers side front negative camber/caster angles...
I "think" the 3-53s are governed to 2200 rpms(?) Detroits just sound that way normally.
As to the RPMS,no idea,Gama Goats never had tachometers,(to my knowledge anyway).
Sorry for the shaky video, evidently I have a tire out of balance on the tractor of the Goat.
Ok,Follow up report on the Goat after it's trip to the GA rally.
What little I got to drive it on the trails,it preformed flawlessly,I only had to use 6wd twice!
Adam and I did take it on a "road trip" to Greensboro GA on Sat morning, on this trip I noticed the Goat was pulling to the...
Nothing much to report today, finished checking all fluid levels and switched the front steering gear box over to JD cornhead grease,it takes 1 1/3 tubes to fill it up.
Still gotta bleed the brakes after changing 5 old hoses last weekend and do the same conversion to the rear steering gear...
I finally had time to test drive the Goat with the new gauges and new tires installed, along with an S250 shelter in the bed.
WOW,talk about sucking the life out of a 3-53,who would have thought 1000 lbs would make that much of a difference?
I'm sure wind resistance had some part in it(nasty...
Nothing much to report this week, just doing some final "nitpicky" stuff before the GA rally.
I am converting both the oil pressure and temperature gauges to mechanical with Murphy gauges vs the standard electrical M series gauges.
The oil press gauge had already been converted by the Forestry...
m38inmaine is right,it just rests on top of the windshield frame and the pressure of the hardtop keeps it in place, only the side frames bolt to the hardtop assmy.
It took a while to figure out with no directions!!
Will do quarkz,
It does have a foam strip with a recess cut into it to fit to the windscreen top rail,as m38inmaine said.
I actually had to remove the slide rail for the soft top to get it to fit correctly.
UPDATE!!
Since I made the trip to Texas and purchased the remaining lot of Gama Goat tires/rims from Mark,
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?142900-Morganton-NC-to-Spring-Branch-TX-and-back
The M561 now has 7 EXCELLENT tires(Thanks again Mark!),I installed the best 6 out of the lot...

BTW,the hard top makes it very difficult to get in the cab.I kind of wish I took the time to find a soft top frame.
