    Rap on the protective control box with a piece of wood or a softblow hammer and see if the solenoid will make contact and allow the engine to crank. Very common problem(solenoid doesn't engage enough to make good electrical flow to crank the engine)

    Sounds like one of the relays in the protective control box is going bad.
