I don't mind mods for my cucv, but the grill guard and shackles stay in place. The guard/shackles with the green paint is what makes it stand out from the civi trucks.
I agree with them being over priced. I only paid $2200 for mine and would have not bought it, if it was priced was more then that. A combination of them being ex army, harder to find as the years go by, and what some people are willing to pay for them keeps the prices up. Makes it even worse...
Regardless, we or most of us still love and drive our 6.2 diesels until they die and then, rebuild or install another. Some that have more play money will install a cummins, but for most of us on a budget we are happy to replace those parts that are fairly cheap on our 6.2 diesels.
The 6.2 diesel still somewhat kept the market poisoned too, unlike most other diesels built to this day they were built to handle only the power output they make. A weak block, cast crank, weak pistons, and etc. Yes the engine will live long and run fine if treated like a light duty low power...
It did very well on the freeway at 65-75. Even on slight hills it maintained speed without down shifting. It was all stock with 31inch tires from the factory. Depending on setup the 700r4 is not worth switching into a vehicle with a th400. At 70 mph my k20 700r4 4.10 with 245 tires get 20mpg...
There is a civi K30 crew cab short bed for sale in the Seattle area for $22k, but it has been customized. They will most likely never get their money back out of it, but it is nice.
Its debatable whether the cucv electrical system was better then the civi model or not. The 12 volt system seems better to me for normal use. 24volt would be great in colder climates.
The CUCV and its civi counterparts are the same. The k30 has the same dana60/14 bolt/th400/np208 the cucv had. They also had the optional 4.56 gearing. The m1009 was the same as the civi model, but had the th400 instead.
The m1008 are worth it, the m1009? I'd rather buy a civi model and paint it green. I bought my civi blazer with the 6.2, 700r4 and 3.08 gearing for $1600.
