The sync box allows you to parallel the sets, and then drop one off line so you can work on it. It will not allow you to use both sets output at one time. Only allow you to sync one set to another and then drop one off line.
The way it works is so:
Set One is on line.
Start up the second...
Its ok to parallel the sets, that's why the sectorization gear is on the trailer. But it's meant to let you switch the load from one set to the other so you can shut one down for maintenance and so forth.
Sometimes you need to kick me, a wink aint good enough. Yeah, I bet you have seen some good ones. The best i saw was a generator that had not worked in 2 or 3 years. No one wanted to talk much about it, and it shows how the shop office can bring new meaning to "creative writing" 101. In any...
Gunny, when it wet stacks, you will see black oil, (kinda like thin tar) run down from the muffler where it bolts to the exhaust manifold. When its real bad, the exhaust outlet on top of the set will be caked with it, and often chunks of soot will fly out when it runs. Under a load, it will heat...
Wrong.
If you look at the front of any generator set manual you will notice that there are several different models. For instance, the 5 KW TQG MEP-802A 60 Hertz model AND the MEP-821A 400 hertz model. Order a volt regulator for a 400 hertz model and install it in a 60 hertz model and see what...
I looked at the SS Tech manual section, and you are missing half the 802 manuals, and all the 803 manuals. Or am I doing something wrong? Should I be directing these questions to the web site boss?
Ok, so at least Gunny has TM experience. But the rest of you? Do you all know what a UOC or CAGE code is? Reading the TM is not the same as understanding the TM.
Am looking at my TM's and thinking what kid of list to give you all. As the Gunny said, the sets are reliable. Not many problems...
First a question. Or questions. Do you have access to the TM's? If not would you like them? Keep in mind, that a generator has manuals for the generator, and manuals for the engine also.
I am not sure my copies are the most current, nor have every change to make them so, but I have just about...
Chris,
That's what the Q, in TQG stands for Tactical Quiet Generator. Having said that, yes it is lots more quite. I spent 20 plus years working on generators in the army, and 8 plus years working on generators here in germany as a civilian contractor for the army. I have seen the many changes...
Gunny,
No job left my shop without 6-8 hours load test. I don't think you need to run it 8 hours, but 2-3 hours would not hurt. On some sets, after an hour, if they were wet stacked badly, the carbon chunks flew out of the exhaust like hail. We almost set the woods behind the shop on fire. I...
Jimbo,
That's a fact! If your going to test, then do it right. Just like you would when the lights go out. An you might just find out its a bit more complicated then you thought/planned. Or there might just be an easier way. Practice makes perfect!
These trailers are called Power Units. One or more generator set, sometimes with sxncronition box, sometimes with cable reels, storage box, antenna racks and Fuel tank. They were system specific. Meaning for the Fire Finder Radar, the P.U. set was configured different then for Commo rigs.

Gunny,
There is also a TM for the Trailer, (Power Unit is what its called) to explain how to use the Synconation box on the fender. Both gen sets should be hooked up to it, and you can for instance, swap out one set for the other under load. Nice if you want to perform maint. and do not want to...
