You would be better off putting the sending unit into the exhaust manifold right before the turbo so that you can get more accurate numbers. Remember, all the energy it takes to spin the turbo actually cools off the gas a serious amount. I can actually touch my exhaust pipe down at the elbow...
A pyrometer (not pedometer) can be your best friend because your exhaust gas Temps can quickly increase second by second while the coolant temp stays relatively stable for a couple seconds. When going up a hill, even unloaded, if you push too hard while the engine is in too high of a gear, it...
Just now seeing this. My heads are going back on today. Found tiny cracks around the swirl tubes on every piston. I originally freaked out and was on a hunt for new pistons and sleeves, but I couldn't find any that I could feasibly afford, so its going to keep running with those cracks. Do you...
The underside of rustystuds truck has no rust.... I am jealous. I am on constant rust patrol for mine, and have about a 2 year list of weekend projects to kill all my rust.
Well, It is time to finally give you guys the update. I have been so busy with so many things, but first for the good. The truck is home, is healthy, and had no major breakdowns on the way down. I checked all fuel filters, all major rotating pieces, and on the drive would routinely feel the hubs...
Rusty, I think what I am hearing is the unloader valve. It's only at idle that I hear it, and it's coming from under the hood, not the tanks. The truck is holding a solid 120. When the unloader valve is open the compressor is pumping to atmosphere right? When the sound occurs it's short and...
So I have been promising photos for a while, so here they are. Sorry for the delay. Wish I had more, but with the nonstop rain I have had, tomorrow will be the first nice day I will have to get photos with. Definitely more to come, and a new thread soon for the restoration of it. Many questions...
Hey Rusty, Any opinion on whether or not an air/water separator is a good idea to add to the system? Just to keep the moisture out of the air tanks more. Blow downs would still be a every drive occurrence, but it would help keep the moisture out of the tanks even more.
Follow the Instructions of this thread and you will be fine. image dump in next post, and a few better pics when its not freaking raining in Florida. 3 days straight so far with more expected in the morning.
Pictures and videos coming soon. 800 miles in 2 days. Feeling the burn in my shoulders worse than anywhere else. Respect to the guys who drove these things, pulls like an ox, screams like a banshee, and has the suspension of a mule. One thing I noticed was smoke in the fuel tank whenever I...
Will be seeing it tomorrow at 9 am eastern time. Pictures to come. Gopro, camera, Polaroid, and a butt ton of paper with me. Insured with Hagertys for 323 per year.
We are driving up today. Good news, he is definitely running. The owner sent me pictures of it and video of it at 50. I will still be doing a full pmsc and extensive shake down drive. 700 mile trip, here we come.
Yeah, she was built in the 40's, and she just keeps cranking away in the hull of that old boat. Rebuilt it 3 times now, but it's more dependable than any Cat or cummins. No offense to cats or cummins, but detroit built one **** of an engine.
Trip path posted in pictures. Shortest possible...
We actually did have a "Jenny"! It was named as a joke when we couldn't figure out a name, and it stuck. I currently own 3 boats though, and none of them are Jenny's. We have the "Linda", "Mary", and "Vitamin Sea"
Growing up on a commercial shrimp boat, I tend to keep a very level head..... him on the other hand. He would be safer in a helmet and a suit made of bubble wrap. Unfortunately he is the only person crazy enough to drive with me up there, buy a vehicle I have never driven before, and then drive...
With how often it is going to be run, I will stick with DOT3 till it needs replacing, then go DOT5. That is, if it isn't already DOT5. I am a marine mechanic, so I know abit about cars and trucks and such, but brakes are foreign to me. I think highway patrol would get rather upset if I dropped...
