M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Well, you were right!!! After all of this time thats went by, thats exactly what the problem was. However, Fleetpride had a different take on why the transmission bracket was making contact. They said it looked like my cab was tilted back slightly, so they unbolted the two rear cab mounts and...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Wow, very interesting to hear this could be the problem with mine...especially if it was making the same noise and temp sensitive. Youve got my hope up now lol...hoping it wont be crushed again next week ha! This will be the first thing I have them look at next Monday

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Was yours temp sensitive like mine is? When its hot out it does it right away, but if I take it out in colder weather like now I have to romp on it for at least 5 minutes before it starts to get bad...so it has to be warmed up to be fully revealed. I'm defnitley gonna have the those mounts...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

All of those things have been eliminated and the problem has to do with the RPM of the speed of the shafts turning. It gets worse the more torque is placed on the truck under acceleration..especially on grades. I'm definitley gonna have Fleetpride check the rear Transmission mounts next week though.

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Well, the technical schools checked it and said there were no loose bolts. The teacher there thinks that it is the flywheel causing my problem after pulling all of the shafts and other troubleshooting with the T case. Others disagree with that and Fleetpride is just flat out clueless at this...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

I know man, I cant believe it myself especially after talking with the guys at Fleetpride yesterday. They don't know anymore than the students at the Technical school.

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Wow, thats a really nice offer...and yeah I know swamp was up for it too..problem is that shipping it down there was to high. I'll probably be contacting you after Thanksgving. Fleetpride wants me to come down there next week to ride with them on it and i may let them try one more day on it...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Update: So after all this time we pulled a ll of the shafts out and the truck still does it. Does not matter if the front shaft is out or either of the rear shafts. So can't be axles and cant be Ujoints. Checked T case too and cant find anything. To make matters worse my truck has been at...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Yep, I've decided that taking an oil sample and disconnecting the front drive shaft should yield some indication as to what my problem is exactly. I'll update once I figure out what the culprit is.

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Thanks for the advice. It does go in and out of low just fine and driving in low range did not make a difference with regards to the noise. Did your U joints show visual wear from the racket?....A drive line shop here told me last week that the shafts and joints were in great shape...so I left...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Well, we replaced the transmission and it really didn't make a difference with that particular noise. I know it's hard to tell by listening to the video, but we have figured out that the noise is definitely coming from the drive line between the transfer case and shafts....not as far forward as...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

hmmmm, I will probably try that. Are you saying that your front drive shaft would make a worse noise when under acceleration just like mine?

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

Considering that this truck had this noise coming and going from the time I picked it up after the supposed fresh rebuild 4 years earlier that all Frankencabs models and others definitely had, I am surprised no one else has chimed in about hearing this sound in another truck. Really? no one has...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

We checked the U joints and they are tight with applied force by Human hands...no play....they seem to be in really good shape. Also can not find any evidence of any rubbing happening on the T case or tranny. Rear ends are great and no carrier bearings on these trucks...not like the A1. The...

M923a2 clanking grinding noise from under cab? Transfer case or U joint?

I finally got a chance to take some videos with my new phone that have good audio so I posted them on Youtube. The truck has been making this clanking grinding noise that does not really start until after driving the truck around for a good 10 minutes which tells me it probably has to do with...
