Sounds like a plan. I did come across a battery terminal I was less than impressed with, and the smaller ground cable that comes off of the front neg terminal needs some attention. Like I said, new to me and trying to do all the SS tricks to get her reliable. Many thanks to Marcus and all who...
Quick update, new st85 relay in ($40 bucks about at jobber cost!), truck starts right up. However only getting about 10.4v at the glow plugs. Obviously working fine, hoping to see 12v and end of my battle.
That makes sense. Surely has carbon, the relay looks factory, at least likely hasn't been touched since it left service. Going to try to get the new relay in tomorrow if I get off work in time to get the part. Also ordered a new gp card from antenna climber, save the stock unit as a back up...
Marcus I have a question about that for you. So before the 12v bypass, the truck would start though slowly as if it had bad gps. After I did the bypass, no start at all. Was there additional voltage/amperage before the bypass that allowed the plugs to heat up at least slightly?
Ah yes I missed that Marcus. I did not test it under load, assumed it bad and did not want to send excessive voltage to my new gps. Anyway, after some more testing with the multimeter, I believe my relay is bad. After the 12v bypass, I am not getting any voltage out of the relay, and no clunk...
My relay still clunks and wait light stays on longer now, but plugs are obviously not warming up. Exhaust smells like fuel and smoky. It was approx 60 degrees when I tried last. It's about 10 degrees warmer now, I'm about to go try it again and give the multimeter some field time.
Ok guys, I apologize in advance for yet another gp system thread. I picked up a m1009 2 weeks ago and am slowly going through the systems to make sure it is reliable. Started with dog head mod, next on my list was new ac60gs and 12v resistor bypass. Well new gps in and then I discovered that the...
