    below thread brought up a point to consider if one thinks about swapping to a different engine....... Choose a sleeved engine. A sleeved engine may make an in frame engine rebuild more doable. Did search and found the 8.3 mentioned earlier is sleeved. The CAT 3116, 3126 and C7 are not sleeved...

    Believe the CAT 3126 and then CAT C7? were next generation engines for FMTV family but neither have too great a reputation in some parts so have read. Also, they are all Electronic unlike the 3116. Not sure if that matters.... as in will either of them want to be pulling info from a Transmission...

    when things break UPGRADE. Someone here mentioned they thought the 8.3 Cummins? might be a worthwhile swap.
