    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

I was told it stood for F@cked Up Data . Kinda like "FUBAR" .

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

I can only surmise that you don't like me much . The feeling is mutual I'm sure.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

OK, maybe I should have led with the last sentence. I thought it made perfect sense when I wrote it. I do get your joke. It was funny ! :-)

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Floridianson I know your just trying to keep the peace here and I respect that, as I also respect you and your knowledge of these military vehicles. But I was slandered when I was told I'm spreading false or "FUD" information. Especially coming from a "Moderator" . If it was from some other...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

We are not talking about "Regeneration" . That is a totally separate subject. Also all the Cummins engines with the "common Rail" injection use the "SCR" system. Again I'll post proof of what I'm saying. This is from the Cummins Service Manual.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

YES !!! Finally someone see's what I'm saying. I did call "Cummins Northwest" today and my friend said to call the Tech department at 800-286-6467 . They also verified what I have been saying (in fact they said why in the world would you add fuel when your trying to "slow down" the truck ? ) but...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Again there is a grain of truth to your statement, but the reality is something different. The system your describing is the "Lean NOx catalyst" system. It is only used on a very few engines. The most common is the "SCR" system which uses the "urea" solution. That is the stuff you must add to...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Well when someone says I'm giving "FUD" advice that is not a very nice thing to say. The advice I give is from my decades of actually doing mechanical work. Not something I learned from reading a web site's tech column. If you disagree with something I have written that's fine. I will explain my...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

OK, time for a little tech lesson. The average combustion chamber reaches the temperature of 2732 degrees Fahrenheit. That is of course using fuel. Now if we take away the fuel the temperature is only several hundreds degrees of Fahrenheit. So for those who think the injector cannot handle that...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Are you saying I'm spreading FUD ? Really ?!?! Take a good look at the electrical diagram from "Jacobs" . I circled the important part. Your statement that injection pumps circulate fuel is correct, but the part about the injectors is totally wrong. As far as heat on the injector tips in...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

It's a "yes and no" kind of question. Yes there is excessive fuel going out the exhaust. No I don't think it will be hurt much except for exhaust emissions. Since we don't have to test for emissions that is not a problem. You can have a little problem if your exhaust is extremely hot and you...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Like I posted earlier in most modern engines with ECM's there is a signal that is sent telling the ECM to shut-off the fuel.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Jake brakes open the exhaust valves just before top dead center allowing all that compressed air to exit out the exhaust. It also stops the fuel. So each time the piston is coming up to top dead center the engine is compressing all that air which requires HP and then just letting it go. It can...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

To help save your spring you could install it on the other side of the flapper valve. That way when it's closed the heat will not be hitting it straight on.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

That's what I was thinking to. I suppose it would last for awhile but sooner or later that spring will loose it's hardness.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

How did you test the pressure relief valve ?

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

    The cost would be considerable.

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

Agreed ! I would follow that thread !

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

That is exactly why I said you need to be very specific about Cummins engines. Having worked on the ISC, ISL, and ISM, and M11 engines in the past 25 years I've had to be very exact ordering parts. It's not like the days of the small block Chevy anymore. But getting back to the original question...
