Rig has been staying fine as frogs hair with some regular maintenance of all the fluids, whole lotta grease, and a few excursions as often as I can to keep things moving nicely, while I make some shop space for my far more problematic ventures in the bottom two pictures below.
Man, GM sure put...
I think I have some more details further up in the thread, but it somehow wound up sitting to the point all the fluids had gelled, leading someone to fry the starter solenoid at some point in time trying to crank it. A degunk of the fuel tank/lines, flush of the oil, and new solenoid, and it's...
Had some spare time on my hands lately, and wanted to clean up some branch marks (hits its head on everything on our forest trails) and take care of the old auction paint pen markings on the cab.
Now, I KNOW I have come across some threads on the auction marks, but in my stupidity forgot to...
Nice! Yeah, one of the perks of the stock racing seats is simple hardware and no airbags/electrical to worry about. You use any of the aforementioned brands in any of your other builds?
Yeah, I believe I remember a post where I guy got a couple seats out of Honda Civic SI for dirt cheap from the salvage yard that worked nicely. I figured, what the hell though, if I can get brand-new ones for cheap, might as well go for it!
Been batting around the idea of putting some new seats in the truck, and as luck would have it, friend of mine started a new gig with a supply company that gives him some pretty good purchasing perks. Anyone have any experience with seats by the following manufacturers, that have worked well...
True, poor taxonomy on my part, but definitely the point on the housing where the most air was coming out. Couldn't find any details on the internal layout beyond the spring/plunger mechanism. Could just be enough air coming from the housing that it feels like the source is there, may need to...
Moved the truck after sitting a while the other day, and noticed a lot of hissing from the rear once the parking brake is off. Most results here on the forum seem to point to a bad diaphragm in the chamber. Air is coming almost entirely from the valve in the attached pic, with some noticeable...
Yep, that's correct. Apparently the turbo is a bit too big anyway, only spools effectively around 3000 RPM ... a feat that old diesel is loathe to do, so he's reworking that portion, and is hoping to have a slightly more elegant solution later on.
E30 Frankentruck, as promised.
Guy in our club started it when he got his hands on a dead husk of a 324td for $500. Found a decent M21 turbodiesel, dropped a Cummins turbo in it, then carved the whole thing into a pickup. Even fabricated a working tailgate! Local BMW chapter is super laid back...
They got a massive kick out of it. Anything out of the ordinary really, is always a hit. One of the guys actually has an E30 he's converted into a turbo-diesel pickup. I'll grab some pics at the meetup tonight and post them up!
Not many updates so far, outside of routine maintenance. Mostly shop-hunting, as I'm starting to tire of the shadetree life, rolling around in a bed of goatheads every time I need to get under the truck ... ouch!
On the other hand, been working on tidying up the interior a bit, and still can't...
