Good deal. Interstate McBee makes a decent solenoid. Or cummins direct. Its a 3/16 allenhead. Do not tighten them too tight. There is an o ring under the solenoid when you put it back on. Doesn't take much to screw it up.
Yes. So You can rule out the electrical part of it and know you are focusing on a fuel delivery issue. Best to eliminate that first and start from there
You can still shut it down with the Manual shut off if need be. This is just for diagnostic purposes
