I'm with you on a man-made EMP.... not super likely.. but a grid ending CME from our sun is an eventual certainty. Not if, but when. We had a pretty close call on 4/23 and the aurora could be seen as far south as parts of Arizona. We have observed massive CMEs that just happen to be pointed... -

People are not affected much by EM. People can take a lot more than it would take to fry your typical computer or coil, or starter winding, or alternator, or the coils in every relay. Ha.... We had a house in Montana, the entire basement was a faraday cage. They embedded copper wire mesh in the walls all around and in the ceiling/main floor. Cool, but it was a job to get the wifi down to the Xbox.
