"LoneTree" is spot on......, just over in the corner of the vacant lot OTF'n. 🤷♂️
You can use JB weld to fill the gouges and sand them down. I've even done that on head gasket fire ring mating surfaces on engines. Customer was fully aware of the risk and "only" wanted another year out of it. That was about 7 years ago and it's still running.
Yeah I wouldn't bother with any of that. Waste of time and fluid.
Drain trans and transfer case. Change filters and fill with new fluid ( ATF - The Army uses Dexron VI ). Disconnect return line from cooler and run the engine till you see red fluid. Fill to capacity. Done.
Don't pour any kind...
Never heard of or seen a single report of that type of failure. Every one of these trucks I have dealt with has had amazingly clean coolant with little to no corrosion despite probably never being changed - My guess on this is that the cooling system being double the normal size (they basically...
Are you going to run ECO hubs? If so I wouldn't bother. The cooling system on our trucks is sized for twice as much engine at the "normal" RPM range that ECO hubs run the engine. For my clutch fan to engage on my 370 HP C7 M1079 (21,500 lbs) It has to be at least 75+ degrees outside and I have...
Curious as to why you haven't considered a 24v quad-mount (pad mount) alternator like @MatthewWBailey used on his build?
Reportedly a toddler could bolt it up. No modifications required......

For a one-off I would tend to agree and if the weight of the new alternator isn't crazy I'm sure that would work fine. The Niehoff 260 ( 72 lbs ) and the 300 ( 98 lbs ) are such that the inherent stresses and hardening in the weld areas cause failures. Yeah I know it can be annealed and it's...
The HIMARS bracket I showed above is the current version. The one in that Eastern Surplus listing is the old original 260A (fits the 300A as well) bracket from when the 260 was first introduced (and the one on my 2008 A1R from the factory) - the HIMARS 300A is heavier and it caused them to fail...
I would copy the HIMARS design used on the C7. Fits both the Niehoff 260 and 300 (98 lbs). Only welding required is the pivot tube which is just a chunk of heavy wall tubing....
I have a friend making me 15 of them. Way simpler and more elegant. One laser cut piece of steel, 3 bends, and four...
The Niehoff alts use a different hinge mount spec. The ear distance (on the 260) is 5.5", and the backside of the front ear is 3" behind the back of the drive pulley.
It's not that hard to one-off fabricate a mount. Some 1/4" steel plate, and a bit of heavy-wall tubing for the hinge bolt. Some...
I mean...... acronyms are just a fact of life in any technical field. Also "jargon" - you just have to immerse yourself in the FMTV ecosystem (well - and electronics, and mechanics, and welding, and all aspects of DIY ownership of "technology") If you are on this forum regularly it's probably...
Cant read your list - image is too small.
If you haven't considered it. Being the year it is and being the 3126b - based on my experience I would recommend the following as well:
Engine oil pump:
HEUI high pressure filter kit. (https://ifskit.com/)
Bypass oil filtration.
Thermostats.
All...
