What 11Echo said. Avoid the smaller V6's as their 700R4's have a different pattern. Those engines are called...60 degree I think?
Do a search and read Croatan Kid's 700R4 build up this summer. He gets into all the diesel specific parts he had to get for his 700R4.
Oh yeah, anyone wanting to regear their trucks would do well to go over to www.ColoradoK5.com and talk to some of the guys there. I'd wager you could find someone who would not only swap you but do most of the work. 1 ton axles with 4.56's and a Detroit in the rear are rather desirable.
All the M1008's were expected to do was tow a M101 trailer and haul some soldiers or supplies in the back at convoy speeds (35mph). M1028's could just tow and haul a bit more.
The M1009's were meant for actually moving folks around in "comfort" and command uses and such. So they needed more...
Talk to Croatan about that. He's got the same tires as me and feels that even with the 700R4 feels he's low geared.
4.56's in a diesel truck like ours with stock tires is like buying a stock tired gas truck with 5.13's.
Adding taller tires is the easier way.
Other way is to have the axles regeared. Not cheap or easy but you might find someone to trade you axles if this is your wish as there's lots of offroaders out there who would give a kidney for a set of 4.56 geared 1 ton axles with a Detroit in the rear...
