    Pulled the transmission today!!!

Dug, I never did figure it out because you know how it is on any forum, you get conflicting advice, and who do you believe. I would suggest, after you pull the tunnel covers, put the transmission and both gears and see which one pulls the shaft in.

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

I just opened the windshield/s and used an old 2x4 (doubled up to make a 4x4) and laid it across to the back wall of the cab. On the transmission, I used a couple of nylon lifting straps choked around the transmission to make it balance good. Nice and simple!

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

drgreg, I did know that's where the shifter linkage went into the tranny and yes mine is blanked, but I thought the shaft would've come out somewhere else...Oh well. Live and learn! Had I known what it was though I could've saved myself a few hours and some very choice words being thrown at my...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

NO SH*T!!! I thought that was a PTO shaft. I guess you learn something new every day. NOW WHY THE HE11 DIDN"T YOU TELL ME THAT LAST WEEK...LOL:twisted: Well, I guess that's one tip I'll never forget. It's the lessons hard learned that stick with you!

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

The shaft out of the tower wasn't the problem...that damned PTO shaft at the top in the rear of the transmission was the bugger to work around...it was hitting the cross member and wouldn't let me hoist it any further until I slid it in more.

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

I had to wait till early afternoon before I could go out to work on the truck, as the baby is sick and mommy needed to go to get some medicines for her. Once she got back from the store, I went out and filled the transmission with fresh gear lube...boy it takes a lot! I filled it till I was...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

Well, my new clutch disk came today, and I got started putting her back together. While I was waiting on UPS to show up, I finished the outside air scoop for the heater install. I was going to put it on facing the rear of the truck like someone suggested, I think it was gimpyrobb, not sure...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

To the gravel...yes. I actually had a piece of scrap plywood I set it on and then slid it out of my way so I could crawl back under there and work on the flywheel and real main. I was going to post this until I saw it was already in the resources section, but I still am since I can't add...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

Yes jinx, that's the shaft we're all referring to. G-Force, What you were told is more a rule of thumb and not really necessary. It's only absolutely necessary to replace the pressure plate if the pressure plate is scored deeply or warped beyond spec. As to the flywheel, it's so thick that...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

I love the blue loctite. In the steel mill, that's our best friend. I put the flywheel bolts back in the same way I got them out...with the 3/4 impact. They seem to be the only bolts that were truely tight!

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

drgreg, that sounds like a great offer. If I had won that deuce cargo cover at McCoy tonight I would definitely take you up on it.:-D Those flange bolts must be a problem with a lot of people's trucks. I think they don't get tightened up properly because they are a pain to get to. But...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

No it wasn't too bad pulling it apart. But the kick in the pants about the shaft bolts is the 4 on the front axle shaft I removed. I had to get the breaker bar and a cheater just to get them loose!! Thanks for the offer, but so far the only bind I'm in is waiting for the new clutch disk to...

    Pulled the transmission today!!!

This morning I got started pulling my transmission to clean the clutch and flywheel after the transmission leaked all over the place from being overfull. BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!!!! There are people who said that it would be fine by just spraying brake cleaner in the access hatch and cleaning up...
