    towing a deuce

It's difficult keeping track of the numbers for vehicles you don't own;-) The internet helps, but it is so chaotic, the numbers are all over the place, and you can't verify their accuracy. When I was looking for options to recover my deuce, I went through all of this with a trucker friend. I...

    towing a deuce

I have no disagreement with any of this post. I maintain that this is not an unusual outcome for such a heavy load on a 1T truck. If that trailer was pulled by a bumper hitch, it is going to be unstable at that weight regardless of the weight distribution. It needs to be a much heavier truck...

    towing a deuce

Wow TM! I don't know what to say. You have achieved rant. GCVWR is the maximum weight the tires of the truck and the trailer can put on the road ever. The maximum tow capacity can never be greater than GCVWR minus the truck weight. That is a bounding condition. As you said (and I didn't...

    towing a deuce

The PU truck manufacturers have been locked into a race of towing weight and cargo weight on their trucks. They pull like the d ickens. But when it comes time to stop, you have a set of 1940's designed surge brakes, or electric brakes between your life and death. There are two ratings on...

    towing a deuce

I think you are misunderstanding what the numbers mean: GCVWR is the maximum combined weight of the truck and the trailer. To find the towing capacity, you have to subtract the weight of the truck from the GCVWR. -Chuck

    towing a deuce

Wow! That trailer was meant to haul lawn mowers. What's a PU truck doing back there? -Chuck

    towing a deuce

This was a different lesson: don't tow your deuce behind too small of a tow truck. I'm fully in favor of driving a deuce home, IF, and that is a big IF, you take the time to check it over carefully, and then take it slow going home. -Chuck

    towing a deuce

The heaviest dual wheeled F350 has a tow capacity of 12,500 lbs. The deuce weighs 14,000 lbs, and a trailer that can handle a deuce has to weigh at least 6,000 lbs. That's 20,000 lbs of trailer for the math challenged ;-) Assuming your friend had the biggest F350 made, he exceeded the GCVWR...
