She won't start in the cold!

I think I paid about $48.00 ea. for them so that may be a pretty good price. I bought two at the time although if they don't leak it looks like one tank should last years and years. The system only allows just a "sniff or two" of ether per pull and it is just enough to get the engine fired up...

She won't start in the cold!

LowTec, Glad I could help. Although the system I installed was made by Kats the ether tanks I got were from ZeroStart. I am pretty sure all the systems use a standard thread on the tanks so all SHOULD fit. Famous last words I know. Napa did indeed have the takes but it took them a little time to...

She won't start in the cold!

Well its been a while and I've had lots of suggestions about getting my Deuce to start in the cold. After many experiments with none working I went to Plan E, F or G. I installed an ether cold starting kit by Kat's Kat's and it works GREAT!! Since I hate when people post about work they do...

She won't start in the cold!

cranetruck, I have confirmed that I am getting good fuel to the spark plug but no spark at the plug so the logical question is how do I start at the plug and work backwards to find out where the electricity is being stopped or maybe not even started. I don't know how to check where the power is...

She won't start in the cold!

I'm making some progress with my flame heater with the great help of hklvette. I have proven that I am getting plenty of fuel to the flame heater but after investigating it seems I am NOT getting a spark from the spark plug that should be lighting the fire. I disconnected the plug wire and tried...

She won't start in the cold!

OneCool70Deuce, I appreciate all your help and suggestions. I tried your system today with the stop engine knob and I had no more luck then before. I even jumped out of the truck and yelled BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE!! That did not work either. I think I will go back to a more...

She won't start in the cold!

Well okay guys. I guess I will continue to keep posting here so everyone can see how it is going. Next weekend I will be busy most of both days so I don't know if I will be able to get to it but when I do I will let everyone know so maybe I/we can help others. OneCool70Deuce, Can you please...

She won't start in the cold!

Okay. Clue number two. The flame heater is without question NOT working. I just unscrewed the plug and had my son look for any flame even some light and he saw nothing. We waited until dark to make sure he could see anything if it happened. By the way, great full moon tonight! So now I have to...

She won't start in the cold!

Derby, After I posted my last post I realized I should have made it clear that I do not intend to put my eyes close to the hole but instead just look from above and the side. I would think that if the system sprays fuel and has ignition that once that mixture gets to the open hole (with o2) that...

She won't start in the cold!

I think I will give taking out that plug a try tomorrow. I hope the hole for the plug is not a blind hole. If so, I won't be able to see into the inside of the elbow. Thanks for your help.

She won't start in the cold!

Thanks hklvette, Quick question for you. Today I took a look at the flame heater. I did not do anything because I was running out of time but I noticed what looked like a 1/4" plug on top/in the elbow the flame heater screws into. I'm wondering if instead of taking the whole elbow off to see if...

She won't start in the cold!

Today I changed the primary fuel filter (while it was still snowing out!!). There was some junk on the inside bottom of the canister and the valve on the bottom would not drain. Once I got got the canister off (no big deal at all) I took the valve off and cleaned it out so it drains now. I...

She won't start in the cold!

Thanks for everyone's help. This coming Saturday (in a predicted snow storm) I will change the fuel filters (all three of them and see if she starts cold. If that does not work I guess I will start on the flame heater and attack that. I SURE HOPE IT IS ONLY THE FILTERS!! I can't afford anything...

She won't start in the cold!

I just had an old timer tell me the way to use my flame heater is to flip the switch for a few seconds. Then crank the engine while holding the switch again. That sounds different then what I believe is the excepted way of doing it. Shouldn't I only flip the switch WHILE cranking???

She won't start in the cold!

The droop screw may be an option but almost everyone has suggested that the FIRST thing I should do is change the fuel filters. With that overwhelming vote to change the filters that is where I will start. A few years ago I got my filters from NAPA but I don't remember the filter numbers. Anyone...

She won't start in the cold!

Cleb, Thanks for the info. I may try the fuel delivery screw also. I think I will check the filters (not sure how yet) then slowly turn the screw. Can you describe where the screw is and what direction I should turn it? Thank you.

She won't start in the cold!

JWaller, I have a feeling it is fuel so your filter idea may be the trick but that would be way to easy, and cheap. If I recall there are drain plugs on the tree fuel filter bases. How should I should I check. Just see if the fuel pump is sending out a real stream of fuel or should it be slowly...

She won't start in the cold!

Okay guys, here is the latest. I realized that when I try to start my deuce that after cranking it for about 15- 20 seconds (even with the block heater on all night) I get a single puff of white smoke from the exhaust. And since I need to keep cranking for close to 30-40 seconds until I give up...

She won't start in the cold!

Okay, Guys. I appreciate the help. Maybe we are getting somewhere. Let me add (again) that for four years the truck has never started in the winter without ether. That is with fuel bought in the winter and fuel bought months earlier in the summer. It made no difference. The first winter I owned...
