That sounds like the proper way to clean it out. Mine appears to not have much rust but it does have some kind of white pastey gack inside. Hoping to cut it with gasoline and agitation. If not, I'll be washing a few handfulls of gravel to toss in. I was afraid that it would be too...

I have copied the TM and read a good portion of it. MY cap does not have a vent--it has "Non-Vented" stamped into the steel.
My question is how do I deal with the issue. Do I need a new cap or can I run it with the cap backed off. It has a loose spot like a radiator cap about halfway...
