    Fuel sticker violation in NC

Remember these are two separate and distinct issues: the IFTA sticker issue affects only commercial vehicles but the dyed fuel issue applies to everybody. If you use dyed fuel you are skipping out on paying the taxes that are normally added to the price at the pump. Everybody pays that...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

It's all liquid, it mixes in. Your point you have in your case is the extremely small amount. I know that dyed fuel has enough dye in it to be visible, but yours apparently was not. The amount was so small it had to be detected in a lab. I would see if I could get a lawyer to write them a...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

Most of what you specify you have put in your tank should be OK to use as an additive to diesel fuel. Kerosene is commonly mixed with #2 diesel to thin it out for winter fuel up north. But when they do that, they don't have any dye in the kerosene. Home heating oil will also be dyed. Keeping...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

Carnac, I think you have made the point on this one. We are a very small segment of truck owners. There are not many out there who will own an 80,000 lb GVWR vehicle for an occasional drive in the country. I believe that most DOT enforcement personnel are used to dealing with commercial...

Didn't take me too long to find this (just one of many): Congress Raids the Highway Trust Fund for Pet Projects While Bridges and Roads Crumble

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

Believe me, IFTA has been one of the few things that the gooberment has actually done that's made life easier for truckers. You'd have to be way past your teenage years to remember the "bingo cards" we used to have before IFTA came along. You used to have to get a sticker for each state you ran...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

Make sure you register it as a personal or recreational vehicle. As far as the fuel goes, I would not use transmission fluid as an additive because it is red and it may make the fuel look like it has some dyed fuel in it.

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

For commercial vehicles, IFTA is just a way for all of the states to get their fair share of fuel tax money. Most 18 wheelers have fuel tank capacities of 160-300+ gallons. It is common to fuel up in one state and drive across 3 more before you need fuel again. IFTA lets the 3 states in the...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

This quote is from the WI web site, but all states are the same regarding IFTA: International fuel tax agreement (IFTA) IFTA is an agreement among all states (except Alaska and Hawaii) and Canadian provinces (except Northwestern Territories, Nunavut and Yukon) to simplify the reporting of...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

As a commercial truck driver and former owner/operator I can tell you that the price difference is huge on everything once you get into commercial. They have seen us as a cash cow for a very long time. The difference in the price of insurance, the extra road taxes, the price of everything at a...

    Fuel sticker violation in NC

IFTA stickers are ONLY for commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles have different license plates and are registered and taxed differently. If you were using a mil veh commercially you would have to file quarterly IFTA reports itemizing how many miles traveled in each state, how much fuel was...
