    A lot of so called self etching primers aren't really self etching. If the primer isn't a two part product with one component containing phosphoric acid it isn't self-etching in the true since.

    Only two ways to get paint to stick to stainless steel. Passivate the stainless in hot nitric dichromate or sand blast and prime with wash primer then topcoat. Paints adhere by one of two methods, chemical or mechanical.
