Can the unit be ran with the good pump pulling fuel from the tank instead of a outside fuel source if I take a line coming from the tank and attach it to the capped end of the working pump?

Chris I have not opened them up yet did yours work after cleaning them out the unit has six hours on the clock weird the pumps are bad with the low hours on it.
