Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

The ride was a real pain in the arse, literally. But now that it's home I like riding in it. Took it to bobtail the thresherman's show over to Federalsburg Saturday. Had the daughter strapped in her car seat with us, and she seemed to like it to. My girlfriend didn't care for the way we entered...

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Downloaded form after I posted, and saw it there. May have to get it inspected and pay the ridiculous tag fee.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

I just registered a truck historic and didn't notice that. That's going to be a real bummer.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

If it is still running good, not knocking, and oil pressure is good, I would think you are ok. I wouldn't keep running it like that. A friend of mine ran his 813 like that, and it resulted in a bunch of bent push rods. Luckily it didn't stress the bottom end to fail yet.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

About 7pm would have been on 70 somewhere between Breezewood and Hagerstown. I think it was 8 when I made my last rest stop around Hagerstown exit of 70.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

From what I have read 2100 should be the highest sustained rpm. That should result in 52 mph. Mine will turn 2200 plus and run 55 on level ground, but they say don't do it. I drove it home trying not to exceed 50 mph, until the last hour of the drive. At that point I had enough driving and...

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Got a few pics and a short video taken with phones during the trip. Taking a short break to check out truck after the first hour of driving. just cruising stuck in one of the several traffic jams foot through the floor climbing one of too many grades along the way

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

I had your number with me Matt. You were going to be my first call if I ran in to any problems in your area. Previous owner says he changed all the filters recently, including air filter. But I am probably going to change the feul filters again soon, for my peace of mind. I also want to inspect...

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Well the 8 to 9 your drive ended up being 10 out and nearly 13 back. The 818 did not like a lot of the grades on rte 70 through OH, PA, and ofcourse MD. The 15k lb trailer seemed awfully heavy to her on some of them. At times I was down to 30 mph, and at one grade was 20 mph. I am going to be...

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Made it home at 11:30 tonight. Too beat to post everything, but will do that later. Truck didn't miss a beat in over 12 hours of running.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Ok, I am packing stuff up for my trip. So far I have ear plugs, basic wrenches, sockets, screw drivers, pliers, jack, tools to change tire, infrared temperature gun, oil, brake fluid, water, and a tow bar. Ofcourse the tow bar would only be for pulling truck very short distance to get off the...

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

Hmmmm, never thought of a 20k lb truck as a sports car, but makes sense. I have only driven one 5 ton, and it was a 813. The ride was only about a mile each way, so didn't get a chance to see how rough it rode. I guess my Deuces spoil me, because I think they ride really smooth for the type of...

Thanks Bob, have you checked out the calling all Delmarva MVs thread? Sounds like a convoy to OC on August 28th if any of you guys on that side of the ditch are interested.

I will be far from Kentucky, but I appreciate the offer. If I remember correctly you had a longer trip then I have in store. Did ya pee blood by the time you got home? lol

I would imagine that would be a two pillow on the seat trip and a possible ruptured disk

 But then the lil lady wouldn't have any MVs to drive, as she won't drive a manual trans.

Going to pick up a M818 400 miles away

She won't be bobtail, will have a M871 behind it. Hopefully that will make the ride a little easier. I am taking an infrared temp gun to check the drive line and hubs at regular intervals. I did that for the first few hundred miles that I put on my first Deuce, just to make sure I didn't have...
