How can i find out when my engine was rebuilt? At how many hours or how many miles? Like is there a site where i can plug in the serial number on the tag or the vin of the truck to find any info on it?
No, the owner i got it from didnt do anything but fluids, and before him he only put a radiator in it, it looks like whatever turbo came with it from the 88 rebuild. ill try to snap a pic of it
I would say mine sounds like this one but my turbo doesnt make as muh noise at idle, as far as spooling and winding down though it sounds pretty much the same
i dont believe mine is a whistler on the lds 465 1a i have. its a good whistle, you can definitely hear it but i wouldnt say its that loud. i do have a clamp between the compressor and turbine of my exhaust but i dont know that that makes its a whistler for sure
I did drive it home 80 miles...
Got it home perfectly save, almost 80 mile trip i kept it at 50mph the whole time. A few things i did notice
oil pressure gauge was at 60psi for the first 30 min or so then vrried from 30-40 at highways speeds, i assumed it was from engine oil heating up since its a large volume.
When i change...
Yeah there were no bolts on the windsheild and the windhseild folds forward. i would agree it must have been a soft top. its bolted behind the seats. I will just add some nice latches to make the top easily removable then. i didnt buy it to be orgional or anything, im going to use it and have...
Oh i see the difference, i will have to check it out when i pick it up, i wouldnt say the turbo was annoyingly loud or anything although i have a 5" straight pipe exhaust on my duramax. still straight pipe powerstrokes are much much louder than duramaxs though.
I have read something about...
I guess maybe it is loud? I am not sure. The owner said he didnt know much about it, i didnt know much other than it didnt match the engine codes i was looking for as a whistler. I didnt know, he didnt know. i thought it might be the problematic continental engine but i wasnt sure. Neither of us...
Where are the air tanks? I glanced around when i was under it but forgot to search for them.
I did notice there was a hissing when the truck was shut off for a few minutes then a realse of air and it stopped. it would repeat when cycling the accessory switch. Is this an automatic moisture drain...
I dunno im a truck driver, all of my trucks whistle, i just assumed the whistler was a more distinct whistler. its not quiet, but most in videos ive watched seemed louder. i thought the only way to tell was if it was a 1C motor.
The knob on top of the ebrake lever or the adjuster under the...
I have driven it, it didnt sound as loud at idle alot of the videos. how can i tell? He wasnt positive about it when i went to look at it. He said it was a white whistler engine but it says continental on the plate. Would that make a difference in the HP rating of the engine?
Thats funny, thats what he had a bottle of in the truck, i wondered why it was dot5. i guess he knew what he was doing adding it.
So since this one has the more powerful engine, would i be able to reliably tow 15,000lb or so? My trailer loaded with a farm tractor. i use my Duramax for it now.
Thanks for all the quick repsonses! From what i have gathered from the site i had a 175hp 425 tq engine which is great! i was told it was a whistler when i went to look at it so he knocked a few hundred off when i told him it wasnt because it wasnt a 1c but i didnt realize teh 1a was a better...
