It's a multi fuel tank but they're basically the same... The main difference is that the multi fuel tank has a bigger opening to accommodate the in-tank pump. The gasser uses an in-tank filter and has a 2-way breather on it, so I took a multi fuel pump assembly and chiseled off everything...

Here's a video of me raising the derrick pole... I'll be driving around and drilling holes very soon! Jon https://youtu.be/1Jlb0eFDl9s

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Here's a video of the first successful start... There had been some earlier attempts, but the starter drive was bad so I had to overhaul the starter. Also I had noticed that the engine no longer rotated freely by hand - A few years ago I could grab the fan or belts and easily rotate it...

I can't believe how time has flown by, I've owned this truck since 2007 and haven't updated this thread since 2009, but after spending the last few years working on other projects I have finally returned to the V-18... and finally got it running! I still have to finish the brakes and put the...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Hi Group, Finally an update... I am planning to finally get this truck running, I have had so many other projects the past year or so that I hadn't even touched it. In the next week or so, I am going to drag it from my back yard into my driveway and get started. I have been collecting a lot...

It's the rear winch... supposedly 20,000 lb capacity, same as a wrecker's rear winch. I can't get the cover open with the derrick down, so I've only gotten a little peek at the winch so far. Jon

Wow, I can't believe I missed that thread! The irony is that I missed a thread that included pics of V-18s while I myself was preparing for my trip to pick up a V-18 (you posted the pics the weekend before... I wasn't online much). Anyway, I can't believe they would part those out - they look...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Thanks David! That's a great tip... Although mostly complete and in excellent condition, my truck still needs some parts that are unique to these trucks... Marcus, when you find this place, I'd love to get some contact info so I can talk to them about what I need... Here's the V18-specific...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Thanks for the tip on the fuel filter, Marcus! I removed my fuel tank today, I'm going to strip it down and clean it and all the pieces, do rust treatment if necessary, then reassemble. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with all this old fuel... I have many buckets full! I tried burning...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Thanks for all the comments and support, guys! I've been so busy this week (working out of town, mostly) that I haven't had time to look over the new truck much, let alone take pics or post here. Hopefully I'll get some breathing room soon. Definitely! I hope the engine is in good shape...

What a trip! That was a ton of fun... and everything went perfectly, including the weather. My friend Keith showed up at 0545, and we hit the road right at 0600. Keith was once a school bus driver, and has kept his commercial class A license with passenger and air brake endorsements up to...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

It's home! 540 miles round trip in 19 hours including fuel and food breaks and three hours at the campus prepping the truck and hooking it up to the towbar. Flawless trip. Pics and full write-up to follow, right now I'm going to sleep. Jon

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Man, how did I screw that up? My memory must be going, I swear it was just under 200 miles each way! I want to avoid driving through Los Angeles, so my route will be to go up Hwy. 395 to the 58, and take that all the way to the 101. My map program also shows that as my shortest route at 260...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Well, I got my phone call today - I've been waiting very patiently, but finally the "title conflict" has been resolved, and that means an MV road trip is at hand. With cash in pocket and towbar and tools in the bed, a friend and I will head to San Luis Obispo in my deuce this coming monday...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Actually I like that idea Kenny. If I want to be 'slick', I could make up some cardboard covers and use an axle shaft gasket as a template to cut holes for the bolts... Jon

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

That's good to know! I plan to remove the front and rear output shafts from the transfer case for the trip home... I'll remove the inter axle shaft if I have to put a deuce wheel on there. I suppose if I get a flat on one of the fronts and have no 11.00-20 spare, I should put one of the 11.00s...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Thanks for the heads up David... I didn't know that! I'll have to make sure it has a spare. If not I'll try to pick up one before hand. With singles on the rear I don't want to be stuck just because of a flat. I've haven't used my towbar yet, so I hve no experience with how the trucks will...

    1952 Studebaker V18A/MTQ

Yes, the plan is to tow it with my deuce and towbar. It's just under 200 miles each way, about half of it on the 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) and the other half on smaller highways across the Mojave desert. I plan to rebuild all 6 wheel cylinders on my deuce before the trip, and add weight to...
