. That is my plan. I'm a bit nervous because of the low top speed. I have to climb up from Fairfield to Vallejo and I won't be doing much more than 30 mph on the incline.
Almost 5 years...she's finally done.
I finally put the finishing touches on my wrecker. Gun ring and convoy lights. Almost 5 years of sanding. Scraping, wrenching.
I have a cab reinforcement plate. I didn't install it because the crane engage lever would be blocked and unable to operate. The lever is behind the driver's seat in the corner of the cab. I'll post some pics of my install and mods later today.
Gang,
I contacted Greg @ www.dataplates.net and he found the order with all the data plates he made for my wrecker. It's almost 100% complete except for some winch data plates which I didn't need to remove and replace. Feel free to contact Greg if interested in purchasing the data plates.
The hard top was in pretty bad shape especially at the mounting flange (lots of rust). Also, with the gun ring, I thought it better to go with the rag top.
Got more done on the wrecker these past
few weekends. I stenciled the truck, installed the interior, installed the Vic-1, and installed the NOS canvas cab cover. Gun ring is about all that's left.
drilled and installed the crane control data plates. Dataplates.net made the plates but they don't come with the holes so I cross-drilled each data plate to match the original. Very happy with the quality of the reproduction plates.
Tracer,
I did make it to Camp Delta but did not bring the wrecker...she's not done yet...
I did add the yellow and black stripes this weekend. Stars and hood markings and she's done, done, done.
base color complete
Took advantage of the long weekend and finished the base color. It took all 3 days this weekend to get it done. Man, there are a lot of nooks and crannies on this thing. Total paint needed = 4 gallons. Total hours to paint = 45 hours.
After the paint cures for a bit...
Howard,
Yes I will be reproducing the black and yellow stripes on the outrigger feet, bumpers etc. she might also get a yellow nose. I'm also planning to install an M49 gun ring [thumbzup]
update: 4 years of sanding; now it's time to paint
I can't believe it's been 4 years since I acquired this wrecker. Got the brakes completely redone, now no issues at all. All interior canvas is re-done. Crane cab canvas re-done. New data plates for crane, winches etc. I've been sanding...
