    From someone who done MANY frame repairs and mods, I would fish plate both the inside/outside of the rails, the longer the better, 6' with 3' on each side of the weld, if you can not get to the inside, go thicker on the outside, at least 1/2", the ends of the fish plate must be at a 45 deg.
