Still there is a reason for ratings, stress acts funny, again just because you can get away doing something does not mean you should do it or that it will not come back and bit you in the a$$ later, doing something because you can not how you should is how equipment gets tore up and people get...

Just because a crane can lift something does not mean you should.

The second hoist winch is not the issue, what to do with the second cable is, if the wrecker is using a 3 part block rigging then there is NO sheaves for the cable to run over at the boom tip, so another tip needs to be added. as far as hard to manage loads, proper rigging will take care of...

The fluted drum only sets the first lay of cable, it does not restrict the cable to one wrap.

If you go for number 4 axle, mod a front axle so you have SELF STEERING like a tag axle mixer, this WILL prevent a LOT tire scrub on the three rear axles, use the springs and all and duel up number 4, though if number 4 is only used to pull your camper modded trailer, then singles would be fine...

The best would be the stretch to a 819 wheel base, the wheel base of a 819 is about 4.5' longer then the 816. I just thought of another option, find a m920 (should be cheaper then a 819), put the 816 bed on the 920, should still have room for the 5th wheel, by doing this you will gain speed...

This looks like a head game, I DO NOT play head games, that is for kids. You asked a question, I gave the answer, if YOU want to play head games, go play with someone else.

As to the 36,000 lbs stuck deep in anything, according to fm 20-22 (Vehicle Recovery Operations), the needed pull is THREE TIMES the struck weight (108000 lbs ), now finding a 108000 lb dead man just may be a slight problem, also 20-22 states if possible, vehicle struck deep should have the...

One more thing, a 36,000 lb. anything makes a very heavy expedition vehicle, that will find the bottom of a mud hole faster then a NY second, then once the bottom is found, do not count on the winches pulling it out they may or may not, if not then what.

The boom issue with box trailers hooked to the 5th wheel on the 819 does not get better if the boom is over the cab because of the rear overhang of the crane. If you mounted the winch between the crane and the cab, that would take a lot of room to get the fleet angle right so the cable will lay...

You could slide the whole X member back, dump the rivets, clean up the inside of the frame of everything so it is a naked inner frame, THIS would be a project BUT can be done.

Red, The longgggggggggg wheel base on the m819 is what makes it a far better lift tow wrecker then ANY of the older 5t wreckers (39, 809(except 819) and 939 series), the 819 has All the major weight and most of the minor weight in FRONT of the rear trunion , this allows for a GREAT counter...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Being that I am soldier A, B, and C (me, myself and I ), we have found climbing up/down on the 819 can get tiring VERY quick where working from the ground is a LOT easier on the body both from less climbing and a lot LESS finding the ground at a high rate of speed so here is how I mounted my tb...

The edges on the tb pins are broken to take away the sharpness, but still catch a nonaligned hole, my mod makes things a lot easier.

Up above when I was talking about using MY pins and shackles for a lift because I trust mine because, there may be none on the towed vehicle, the shackles may be deformed ,the pin is bent like the one below, or not a REAL lift shackle/tb pin ditto below. The pin shown came off a recovered truck...

The MAIN REASON for cutting off wrecker bumperetts is that they get into the way of rigging the lift shackles with the safety chains, the -10 even has a alternate hook snubbing instructions if the bumperetts are missing. They is never a reason to get into the bumperetts and if I had a wrecker...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

I am not worried about backing up and getting into the tb or towed vehicle, NO difference in backing up then anything else towed, THIS is what MIRRORS are for and if in doubt GET OUT AND LOOK, if you can not back up with a towed something without hitting something or two blocking the towed...

Jeff, this is true but I can adjust out a bit if needed and still be shorter then a closed medium.
