    Disagree. Going without it may cause voltage spikes into your system, and could fail electronics which are not protected against such, such as the ABS module (proven to fail) or the voltage regulator in the alternator. They added it for a reason. You'd have to put a scope on it to confirm...

    There is a diode on the ground side to dampen the inductive spike when the solenoid releases. This is wrapped in tape or shrink tube where the horn wire is grounded by the horn bracket. For my case, this diode was roasted and my horn stuck on. Not sure if this is the case for you.
