Going through scales when you don't need to may cause its own set of problems. I went through the scales, they stopped me and wanted to see DOT number, authority, etc.

The last DOT officer to pull me over commented on my "not for hire" on my pickup truck door. He stated he considers that an admission of guilt and that he pulls over every vehicle he sees with such labeling.
I agree.
This is revenue, not safety, not right/wrong.
The LEO is playing the odds, betting the out of state driver will simply pay rather than spend more to fight it.
