Ok, that is good. I always run full synthetic Mobil 1 in my cars. He also said he would include shop manuals and the driver's manual. It seems like through the projected cost of tires (4 vs. 10), maintenance, gas prices and cost of insurance that the Unimog will actually end up being less than a...
Vermont-Unimog is the guy I am dealing with. He seems really knowledgeable and nice. He also said the upkeep on these things is fairly extensive. How does it compare to the deuce? He also noted that the carbs on these are a pain and that the tranny overheats a lot. What has been your experiences?
I talked to a guy in VT. He has two, both are 404s and one is for 10k and and the other for 8500. Both have had their trannys cleaned and taken apart and both have gotten new clutches and the Pertronix ignition upgrade. The one for 10k is in better condition than the one for 8500. He is sending...
Yea I saw that. It looks awesome, but 12k is a little high for me. Also, I am in CT so I would have to pay for the transportation. I am looking for one in the NE area, or just on the east coast with a few hours. I found a place, Vermont-Unimogs, so I will see with that.
Thank you, I appreciate that! This website is absolutely awesome. I just need to convince my fiance, but I think I have her convinced. It seems like such a fun hobby and I am really looking forward to the excitement of owning a MV. As far as insurance goes, I have USAA for my car. Is that a good...
Yes I have watched an extensive amount of youtube on these Unimogs and I think they have me convinced! I don't need something as large as a deuce, so a Unimog seems more within what I want. I don't have a ton of money, but I can afford the cheaper Unimog, so I will go with the 404. I have...
Wow, I did not realize it was that major to do a transmission. It sounds like you really got to take the truck apart for that job. I would have to buy a crane and get that heavy lifting type equipment. I only have basic tools right now. Thanks for the help.
Good to hear. No idea about the shifting, just what I read... also, I found this website ---> http://www.vermont-unimog.com/ They have some pretty good priced Unimog 404s, I am thinking about going and checking it out sometime in the near future.
What about drivability? I have read the Unimog is more cramped and does not shift well. I am 6'4''... would the Unimog be miserable for someone of my height? Thanks everyone for the help, btw.
Also, some people say the Unimog is over engineered and more difficult to work on than the Deuce. I do like the simplicity of the Deuce, but is the Unimog truly that much more difficult to work on?
I think the 5 ton is too big for me, especially because I am a noob. I also really enjoy a manual transmission. I think I am starting to lean towards a Mog. I have seen videos of Mogs doing well on hills offroad, are you talking about a big hill on the road? Is the Mog way more superior offroad...
Awesome, thank you guys. That is comforting knowing there is an english repair manual. If I can get a good Unimog at a decent price, I think I may go with that. I do not need a ton of hauling power, I am looking to drive them for fun around town and offroad, not as a big work vehicle. I will...
Hello All,
I am a newbie to the MV world, but I have been doing a lot of research on the topic. My whole life I have wanted a Unimog 404, but a deuce and a half owner has almost convinced me to buy a deuce. His argument is that the deuce is cheaper, simpler and the parts are more available. It...
