Rustystud, Brother, you are a wise man and have darn near seen it all. It feels sort of like sitting in a classroom with a front-row seat in these threads sometime. It's great to have you (and the many other "battle-hardened" old hosses like you) around here.

Is that kind of the rule-of-thumb for optimal (+/-) generator use: - To be running (ideally) at 50% of the unit capacity?

That's a handy set-up: - Did you already note where you got the trailer, or was it totally fabbed up by you, custom?

It's like their last ditch campaign to inflict damage on the enemy! It's a lost cause but they mean to go down with a fight (them, the rats, the mice, and all them "wire-biters"). They just happen to pick MV-owners, so that's who gets suckered as they go down fighting. The End.

I get it that martens cause problems for the MV owner, but to be fair we got to recognize the problem we make for the martens. It's inevitable, they're going to lose the battle; it's only a matter of time. What're you going to do?!

It's like umbrellas, Glockfan. I don't know if there is any science to it or anything, but: - The best way to avoid rain is to carry one. :shrugs:

That sounds like hornets. Paper wasps have nests that are flat (not "volleyball" spherical); theirs resemble a sunflower sort of (but without the petals). I don't know why but hornets just put on a hurting more than other stinging insects, might be the poison's different; or the fact that...

I'm figuring that must be some kind of gel membrane or something, can you tell us what it is exactly, please? And that's funny you call them "dirt" daubers, because up here we call them "mud" daubers. I met somebody from North Carolina who grew up calling them dirt daubers also. It's a drift...

The biggest pumps I ever saw were those along the levies in New Orleans. I wonder how they compare to Southern California? Likely similar I'm guessing. I might post a pic here if I can find one.

That's a good system: - And the corn can serve as back-up for a mash to distill in emergencies to get you through a long winter. [thumbzup]

The $60 price doesn't seem way out of line for the NEMA rating and all, but there are no dimensions shown (that I noticed). I'm guessing a little smaller than a cookie jar or something?

This thread is good and healthy for sure, but it's still kindergarten to some of them on the forum here (I think "MV Spotted" just hit on post #500 the other day). :)

That's a great plan, as an alternate. But is there a chart or something correlating cord size and length-to-loads somewhere? I see neighbors sometimes running light-duty household extensions ganged together during the occasional power outages of the neighborhood (from one house, across the...

The good news of codes like that (open to interpretation by the inspector), is that it also means you should be able to challenge the interpretation and go for an exception or something similar. Of course you have to be willing to make that challenge, and then follow through, and that's not...

That screen "sandwich" idea is a great one tim292; and I think the standard rubber/ plastic screen cloth is a small enough grid that it'd keep the Mud Daubers/ Paper wasps/ Honeybees (and the others) out also. But the trade-off is those grids can fill up fast with spider silk, wind-borne...
