The Surfactant Bleed does happen on houses, just not as much. I was told this by the manager of a Sherwin Williams store who did say that washing the structure or waiting for the rain to do it takes care of it, which is the same experience as others here have had. A lot depends on temperature...
The answer to why water based paint will streak when first getting rained on.
It's pretty common, beautiful Sherwin Williams or Behr house paint job on your deuce and the first time it rains there's these weird streaks on it that eventually all wash off.
Turns out that the universal colorant...
As for oblique reflectivity, let's just say, it is water based house paint.
CARC has all kinds of secret stuff in it so that it can be washed down after chemical weapons exposure, and what not.
For the most part, the guys using flat water based house paint on these trucks just want it to...
That ^^ is beautiful work. Did you have any trouble with the sharpie bleeding through? I know the manual recommends chalk, I wonder if that causes any adhesion problems?
I was wondering how I was going to get those lines tightened up. I had thought to thin the paint some more and use a detail gun. Do you think the HVLP gun just isn't capable of atomizing the paint good enough?
As for your other questions, you really only need primer over bare metal, but you do have to ensure you have it scratched up good so the top coat has some tooth. It also MUST be clean. No grease or oil or nothing is going to stick to it.
I'm very familiar with the Sherwin Williams line. I recommend the Resilience for this application. If you read back a few pages you will find good high res photos of the mix labels. But I recommend you take the easy way out. Tell them you want "383 Green" from the Tualatin Oregon store in...
The beige I did is not a CARC tan equivalent. I don't care much for that tan and I didn't mix it up for painting a whole vehicle. It is only for a background to paint vehicle numbers on.
I matched it to a very common color used for that on a lot of trucks I have seen. I like it but might...
But Wait! There's More!!!
Here we have the lovely Beige I had formulated for a place to stencil black bumper numbers. Also is the Sherwin Williams formulation for what for lack of a better name, they called Army Truck Brown.
If anyone has the proper name for the black and brown, please let me...
Yes, it is the same headlight I used for the first attempt at matching 383 Green. The Sherwin Williams guy put a lot of effort into getting it just right.
383 Green
New formula for 383 Green from Sherwin Williams. I will edit the older post to point to here. Photos are the mix codes for Sherwin Williams. The NOS headlight I used for color match, notice that the color on the left matches perfectly? The lighter color on the right was the first mix...
Both of my trucks have typical military paint jobs. CARC applied with runs, flaking off in some places with OD showing underneath plus those rusty patches.
It is obvious that not much if any surface prep was done before painting. All that taken into consideration, that paint stayed on there...
Just a quick update as the sun came out and I am going out to paint.
The Sherwin Williams code I posted up is too green. They corrected it for me and the results are just beautiful. I will put the corrected mix up in the next day or so.
I won't be using oil based paints except for primer again...
The sample I used is in the second picture, partially obscured by the sample card. It is a floodlight off of a tank.
The lighting is a bit off, but I agree with you that it is darker, it is the exact shade I wanted.
I have noticed that some of the more recent examples of 383 Green CARC coming...
Sherwin Williams Paint Codes for 383 Green and Flat Black
Sherwin Williams did a great job of matching 383 Green for me today.
I used their Exterior Resilence which is known for it's quick resistance to water spotting after just a few hours of drying.
Edit: removed photo of mix code. Updated...
