    M871 Rebuild

Natural, I don't have the time to coat them. Part of the reason I skipped the ship lap the deck should drain well. This trailer is getting a tarp kit next year so they will have limited exposure, and white oak has a natural resistance.

    M871 Rebuild

Well I finally managed to get the deck on. This is dry fit, but it isn't going anywhere now I have to mark and drill the holes. I skipped the ship lap bu the end boards are tenoned into the trailer. Fun stuff!

    M871 Rebuild

No nothing yet, I bid a big job and lost and have been trying to get winter prep done...with no success. So I kinda stopped working the deck. My ex finally paid me a large sum of money she owed me so that will help. I need some 300 bolts to tie the deck down which means 300 holes in white...

    M871 Rebuild

I like it and once I set up the new shop I hope to add a slider to the mix. I'm also hoping to add a CNC router to the arsenal, and a roubo bench. I have eclectic taste in woodworking.

On my shop saw yes, it's a large 3 hp cabinet saw. On my site saw no, but I tie it to the pick-up and it doesn't move. Thanks Jim, glad to see you still lurk and post occasionally. I had planned to paint the M915a1 as well but winter is drawing close.

    M871 Rebuild

Yes I'm going to mill it myself with a table saw. If that doesn't fair well on the first board, I'll revert to router jig. I still have my big table set up at the ex's, it'll eat the oak just fine if the little guy here doesn't. Diablo blades turn an otherwise crappy saw into something useful.

    M871 Rebuild

Well I got the trailer painted. Yeah... Fall in ND is a hard time to paint and I had other jobs on the books, so it took some time. Actually I still have the sides left, only got 4 done...of 16. Kinda like the Black accents on the landing/running gear. I plan to paint the pads and the legs...

    M871 Rebuild

Last one for this evening before I ran out of sunlight. The trailer is getting repainted "686" Desert Tan. Actually Home Depot was nice enough to explore un-used portions of the paint machine and pull the actual Federal Standard 595 chip code for the two colors. I provided the codes 33446 and...

    M871 Rebuild

Here is the trailer primed, it's a white primer which I didn't think would be fun but it's turning out to be really contrasty to the top coat. Yes there are some missed spots but as previously mentioned they aren't a great concern. The main objective was to get the rusty metal primer over the...

    M871 Rebuild

Alright I have a few pictures to upload. These are after I stripped the lights reflectors and well anything I didn't want painted. It also conveniently shows the only markings the trailer had, mental note to save that info.

I'll try and snap some before I start spraying paint.

    M871 Rebuild

Well I finished priming the trailer, well sorta, I ran out of primer. Since its oil based and I don't want to clean up again I'm not going to touch up undershot area's. Since it was overcoating CARC and not priming bare steel I can live with this. I'll post pics in a second but first a few...

    M871 Rebuild

Been awhile since I posted but I've had a busy summer, between work and work if you know what I mean. I finished striping the trailer and pressure washed it a few times. Still had to go pull webs and two big girls off the cross members. I don't know how they survived the onslaught of 4200...

    M871 Rebuild

Jeff, I found them in a few places. AFT fasteners has them at $1.71 for 250+ Pioneer Heavy Duty Parts has them, but they never returned my email Finally R and P Carriages has them on eBay at $1 with flat rate shipping. We used them on the 7Q trailer in the USAF, basically a M270. Anyways...

    M871 Rebuild

Thanks, as a contractor I've tried to build around the principle of "build it right", not to steal Mike Holmes's motto. I carry that into pretty much everything I do, just see my re-build thread. In fact Thursday I was meeting with a client and they spoke those 3 little words, "do what's...

    M871 Rebuild

Well I got released early today noonish, and decided to rip the deck off the trailer. Between my two impacts, angle grinder, sawzall, various pry bars w/hammer's and most importantly by duck billed deck wrecker. I had it off in 6 hours and the fasteners ground flush. Tomorrow I'll cut off the...
