    to get it to sputter off of ether, you must have the glow plugs threaded into the engine, not hooked up. otherwise its not going to build any pressure in the cylinders.

    the camshaft in a 6.2 is gear driven off the crank, then a roller chain drives the IP. When you say it wont start off of ether, do you mean it wont fire? or that it wont stay running. The complete lack of fuel at the injectors points to an issue with the IP, you can see the chain if you look...

    it sounds like your shutoff solenoid is bad, or there is a bunch of crap in the ip. depending what you paid for the truck, it may be worth it to just pull the ip and have it checked out.
