    M1008 Starter problems

Thanks for confirming that OEM are the same part # for both sides [thumbzup] I thought this was the case, but wanted to confirm before I ordered anything. The one's it has currently are just some cheap auto parts store replacements. Which is why I'm wanting to get the Wilson Delco Remans. If...

    M1008 Starter problems

Hey All! 👋 I didn't want to make a new thread about this as we spoke some about it in this thread. I hadn't drove my truck in about a month, have had my Dad in and out of the hospital a lot lately. But I went to drive to town the other day and not only has the squealing come back, its back with...

    M1008 Starter problems

Hey all, just thought I would post a "final" update about the alternator bracket. Had a bunch of other work I ended up getting into, but I finally got around to getting the passenger side stock alternator upper bracket I got from Hillbilly Wizard changed out, with the hacked one that was on the...

    M1008 Starter problems

There are shortages of about everything these days. Another reason I want fix everything I can to get/keep my truck fully up and running. I have heard from a Number of people who had something break on their vehicle, often little stupid sensors or etc, and for some of them their vehicles have...

    M1008 Starter problems

no problem. I get what you were saying, and I normally would look up and see what was the correct lube for whatever I'm working on if I didn't know. But I just used what I had on hand as I didn't even know if the bearing was still going to work. I figured any grease was better than it running...

    M1008 Starter problems

yeah maybe, but white lithium (in a can not the spray stuff) or red "tacky" grease is all that I had on hand. Maybe the red grease would have been better. But anything has to be better than nothing though.

    M1008 Starter problems

took inner seal off front bearing, it was dry. what little grease was left was completely dried up, took a pick and picked out a few pieces. put in some white lithium grease, what I was able to get in there. after I got the alt back together, I tried spinning the pully and could feel a little...

    M1008 Starter problems

found a passengers side upper alt bracket on Hillbilly Wizard. I might order it just to have on hand. Maybe I can order the Wilson alternators at some point.

    M1008 Starter problems

Hey Thanks for that [thumbzup] And yes I agree, I think your's is stock. Mine is a hack job. Which is what is causing my squealing. Something isn't lining up right with the belt, or it is the bearings in the alternator even though they still "feel" ok.

    M1008 Starter problems

Went back over to the barn to look at that upper bracket again, took a couple photos. Its obviously been hacked up. The bracket on my truck where they welded it, the nose is not flat but instead "dips" down. Tried to find some photos online of this bracket, or at least of this side of the...

    M1008 Starter problems

I just thought about this when I was walking back over from the barn... What if this is not a 27si alternator at all? I know its an aftermarket, so what if they just took the original alternator into a parts store and found one that was "close enough"? :shrugs: If so, it would make sense why...

    M1008 Starter problems

something about how this alternator was assembled just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe im wrong ,but it would seem like there should be a bushing on the front and rear shaft where they contact the bearing surfaces. rear had no bushing. and front had one but only on outside front housing. Also...

    M1008 Starter problems

took alt apart, every looks fairly clean. checked for play in front sealed bearing and resr needle bearing. they seem to roll smoothly and I can't feel any play just rolling them by hand. the rear needle bearing turns easier than the new one that I found in the alt rebuild kits I found the other...

    M1008 Starter problems

hey all, while I'm waiting on belts and fuel sending etc which still won't be in until tuesday. I thought I'd go ahead and look at the passenger's side alternator. when I started unbolting it, I was looking at the belt. it looks like it's running true, but the bottom alternator bracket sure...

    M1008 Starter problems

I have a 3 set of diamond stones from Smiths, they've been pretty good. I also have a black 8000 grit? 🤔 stone, and a leather strop that I made with polishing compounds. I don't use the black stone or the strop on anything but one knife really. This Cold Steel sees too much daily use to stay...

    M1008 Starter problems

rofl spotted my EDC knife. Been a good one, seen a lot of use over the past 12 years or so, I think thats how long its been since I bought it. I lost it for about a year once, and a month or so just recently... found it in the truck this last time. But it always turns back up. And yeah I need to...

    M1008 Starter problems

ok, here is the update. I started the truck up this morning to pull it back into my garage and it didn't start on the first try. Second try it did start but cylinders were hitting hard and had a good amount of white smoke blowing out the tailpipes, especially on drivers side. I gave it some gas...

    M1008 Starter problems

Nice! From what I'm reading, those are Brand New Delco brand alternators? And they don't even have a core charge, but they do charge $41 for shipping. Still cheaper than FPC by the time you add in the core charge. If I do end up needing an alternator, I may order this place. Thanks for the Link...

    M1008 Starter problems

Thanks for the belt numbers. It could be a belt, its been a while since I replaced them and they are adjusted out toward the end of the range. I'll definitely check this out first. This morning I tested the alternators, drives side tested fine. Passengers side #2 light was on, and when I tested...
