They seem to go in waves. I've not seen a specific pattern. More sporadic. I don't think you'll see any more on GL. The contract for that kind of equipment went to one of the other liquidation companies. The downside is the prices on IronPlanet are MUCH higher than what they were going for on...
I hate to sound like a broken record but.. ;)
Have you downloaded the TMs and looked over the wiring diagram? You'll see where the power comes into the panel and which terminals to test.
Make sure the DC circuit breaker on the panel is pushed in. Make sure the E-Stop is pulled out.
If those...
My seat of the pants MTBF report is that the 831 is much less reliable than the 802s and 803s that I've worked on. Every one I've gotten from auction except one (which was brand new) has needed a repair that would have kept it from being mission ready. And yet I kept buying them. And fixing...
I didn't post about the PMA failure because it arrived to me that way from auction. One of those cases where I should have looked more closely before bidding. Luckily it wasn't a big money mistake. It had a shorted winding from overheating.

Diesel over JP8 should not be the source of the problem.
Let us know what you find out.
After you are sure you've purged the fuel system I would recommend looking at the air intake path. Black smoke is a sign of too much fuel in relation to the amount of air. An air restriction will put you down on power and make it blow black smoke. Lots of black smoke.
Take a look at the intake...
The connections look right. I see no problems there. The first generator I did this battery setup is still going strong after more than 2 years. I hope you just got a bad battery. And I hope Yusa steps up and replaces it for you.
I looked around and didn't find the printout. I don't think it would have helped anyway since it was just a row of a spreadsheet. Nothing official looking.
