    Which military vehicle for a newbie????

    I'd look at either an M37 Dodge or a M715 Kaiser-Jeep, since it seems you are interested in the older vehicles. Anything from the WWII era demands a high price, but there are still good deals out there, but parts are harder to find. Vintage Power Wagons still has tons of stuff for the M37...
