    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Think I see your problem. Tan dash / truck, OD colored speedometer.:driver: Run your hubs and see if it changes or you find them too loose / tight. Remember Steve said a minimum of 10 /20. Bet it could be .030 and still be fine. We just do not want them running too hot.

Would be interesting to try it your way then check same hub with Steve's way. It really is not any trouble Steve's way once you have done one or six.

No trouble really. Mine had a ton of silicone in the bolt holes that hold on the outer hub cover. Just sprayed brake clean in the bolt holes and use air to clean them out. Just funny as to how much sealer some people think it takes to seal. I used High Tack spray adhesive and just sprayed on the...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Thanks again to Kodyman got a chance today to correct the out of phase front drive shaft. Guess I got lucky no vibrations so going with balance is good and noise is gone. Maybe someone flat towed it with just removing the rear axle shafts and for the front just the front part of the drive line...

If you think it might be a problem I can take it out and have the local drive line shop spin it? O boy get to use my virgin Tiger tool that has never been used and in the tool box for 10 years. PS just spoke wit the drive line shop. He said put it in phase and drive it and if it is not correct...

https://www.drivelinesnw.com/part-trouble-shooting/vibration-analysis/phasing/ Willing to bet the person that was working on it before new not of what he did plus the shop foreman was sleeping caused the problem. Drive line balance should be fine finger crossed. Still needs to be corrected.

You are the man and yes my front drive line is out of phase. I bought the tiger tool a long time ago so getting the joint apart will be easy. Thanks for the wake up call.

Yep that is what I did. I had to have a machine shop cut it for me at 95 bucks. I did not have a horizontal band saw to cut the face off. Any hub will do.

I wonder how critical the lash is. I have a growl at have off throttle. I repacked bearings and worked my way out with two new gear sets in 2 of the 6 hubs. Set it by eye and feel using a cut off old hub to Steve's 10/20. No noise change at all and when I first opened them up there was a lot...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Yea I am thinking mine is the ring and pinion to. I used the hand feel it gage not a feeler gage. Dial indicator would be the best way maybe. Don't believe Steve ever said a feeler gage. I used a black marker and marked the gear then just watched the movement. In the old days with a motor with...

You want to repack you inner bearings and the CTIS seal are easy to change if you like the CTIS system. So yes if I had a working CTIS system I would change them out and be done with the hubs for your life time.

Just hope you saved the beans for dinner. Yes any of the FMTV hubs seals can be done without the correct tools. I got my seal driver before I found this out. In some cases seal drivers can be very helpful.

I will bet all your inner bearings need repacking so go deep and be done with it. My biggest fight was pushing on the hub with those tight hub seals back on the spindle. On any other type of truck I have done the hubs went easy. Myself as soon as I can get the outer bearing in and put the nut on...

As per TM take the nut down to 50 foot pounds. Back off 1/4 then tighten to 10-20 foot pounds. Then we see if the pins on the nut line up to the holes in the inner side gear. If not do not tighten any more but you can loosen the bearing nut up to one spline tooth to get inner side gear to line...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

I knocked off my flange cap nuts with a old monkey wrench and a dead blow hammer so I could remove the axles. They came loose very easy. Now I just have to find out what axle is having trouble. I will put the monkey wrench in the truck tool box. Steve I grabbed this seal installer off Obay for...
