Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

Before we get to the terms of the bet I think you better go back and change that to " I believe" it was you!

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

How bout this I bet you five thousand dollars I can remove the fuel pressure relief valve from my truck and it will start and sit there and Idle just fine. Now the money goes paid to USAFSS Coldwarrior our chaplain care of the Ron Harris fund going to his wife. Now since you say you were forced...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

"Very low pressure flow" is one thing to make her run and higher pressure is performance. This is why I have said if you have fuel flow to the head and no start then the problem is in the head most of the time.

Now for the real kicker would a motor start and idle / run if the fuel filter pressure relief was wide open or removed? This thread has been looked at 631 times so come on guys lets see you answers. Yes or no nothing going to bite you here if you wrong. Maybe!

Yes there is circulation and that is with the pressure relief close and not letting any fuel leak past. The in tank pump alone will circulate fuel through the head back to the tank. Maybe you posted before I did? As I said it's the little hole in the over flow valve that makes it possible with...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

If I understand your question how can the in tank fuel pump be returning fuel to the tank with the motor off. If it was not for the very small hole in the over flow valve it would not if your FDC was bypassed. Here is a picture of my return line with just the in tank running over pressure valve...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

Yea if you can keep it running check pressures to start with. Believe your problem is in the head somewhere but if you can get it at least started then there is hope. Performance comes later.

With everything correct in the system the in tank pump will always circulate fuel back to the tank without the engine running. Sounds like you have fuel getting to the head. Even with the over flow valve stuck open the 4 to 7 pounds the in tank pump puts out would keep just enough pressure in...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

Sorry forgot to add the reason I say use the in tank pump to help remove the delivery valve. If you just remove it and spray some crud cutter down the bore you could push any crud back into the plunger and it's bore. With the in tank running you have a better chance to push any crud out of the...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

Sorry Allen square valve body and round bore so it will spin around in the boar. If you can see the little hole near the end of the bore or right by the top where the threads start that is where the fuel goes to each port after the plunger lines up with the correct port. The valve being square...

It's in there just stuck. Allen you know better that it would not run without one and will not run if it is stuck open. He said his ran poorly so it is still pulsating enough but just gummy enough to not let it come out. As said remove it with the help of the in tank pump and a twist then clean.

Frank are you able to get the 60 psi minimum at the bleed screw. The primary was a 10 micron if I remember and that having little restriction the booster pump on the IP would have no problem pulling fuel through it. I just installed a Cat 2 micron filter on my Duramax and I already had a booster...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

If you are talking about the pressure relief on the secondary filter would seem it would be 70 psi. I thought it was in the TM's but I can not find it now. The TM just tells us if with a pressure check if we have less than 60 psi which is the minimum high idle or 30 psi idle then we look for the...

Yep sticky "fuel control assembly" can cause cause more problems than we ever want. Wide open throttel being the worst. I know the other member Allen his fuel control assembly that is installed in the head and controlling the plunger sleeve is moving free. We ran through it twice on install...

Fuel filters or lack thereof and stalling.

Believe the cetane level was much higher the years the trucks were made. That is why I use a good product for lubricity and cetane booster. Yea rust from the secondary and final canisters can cause problems. I like the troubleshooting manual to run down engine performance problems. It seems to...

Yea I ment to ask if the primary was left out or just the secondary and final. Yep easy to check for water.

Not really a shut off valve in the IP. There is the fuel control assembly and the plunger sleeve that takes care of everything as far as fuel control. Ok as for particles from unfiltered fuel causing the engine cutting off when you come to a stop no I do not believe so. You had the problem...
